Both during the design and construction of Integral Children's Center (IKC) De Trampoline the focus was emphatically on quality, flexibility and sustainability. Thanks to a sophisticated use of materials and colors, the building blends in perfectly with its green surroundings. And the demountable construction method also fits well with the client's sustainability ambition....

Commissioned by school umbrella organization Lucas Education and based on a UAV agreement, contractor company BUKO bouwsystemen from Vuren was responsible for the detailed design, engineering, construction and all installation techniques of IKC De Trampoline. "As an additional assignment, we also provided the fixed furniture, as well as the fixed components in the gymnasium," says project manager Henk Oomen. "In a construction team with the school district and its architect, we developed the preliminary design into a final design. We also took care of the Engineer & Build and permit process. In the preparatory phase, we had to deal with a large number of stakeholders. Both on the client and user side, the project was widely supported, which created a special dynamic and a lot of interaction."

Before new construction could start, a number of trees were cleared on behalf of the municipality. Part of the lot was also excavated, after which BUKO bouwsystemen installed the piles and concrete foundation with hollow-core slabs. "On top of the concrete foundation, we made a steel structure, with a filling of wood frame walls," Oomen says. "This allowed us to erect the entire building in a very short period of time. In addition, the steel construction and non-load-bearing interior walls guarantee free subdivision of the building."
The exterior facade is finished with green, metal facade cassettes. A strong vertical articulation was chosen, with a frequency in the interplay of lines of about 1.15 meters. Oomen: "Thanks to the green color, the building blends in naturally with the outdoor area, which has been filled in very naturally by gardener Van der Heijden and playground furnisher Speelmaatje. Before construction began, we, Speelmaatje and the client organized an information day for the neighborhood, giving local residents a good understanding of what would be built."

In addition to the education and care center, IKC De Trampoline houses a gymnasium and a large, central entrance with grandstand stairs. The vast majority of the spaces are finished in white paintwork, Oomen says. "As protection, the bottom 1.5 meters also have a special coating, which is not only robust but also easy to keep clean. In consultation with DAT architects, accent walls in a specific color of green were applied in certain rooms. This color is reflected in a select number of interior doors and in the paneled wall, which can separate the entrance from the playroom."
High-quality thermal insulation contributes to an Rc value of 4.5 (walls) and 6.0 (roof), says Oomen. "Solar panels on the roof also provide sustainable energy generation. In combination with low-temperature heating, ventilation with heat recovery and LED lighting with motion sensors, we amply meet the BENG and Frisse Scholen requirements."

Focus on quality and sustainability
Immediately after the autumn vacations of 2020, Trampoline Elementary School and Vlietkinderen childcare moved into the new Integral Child Center (IKC) De Trampoline in Leidschendam. Both during design and construction, the focus was explicitly on quality and sustainability. The mechanical installations and control technology of TGO Technische Installaties make an important contribution to this.
"On behalf of contractor BUKO bouwsystemen, we designed, engineered and installed the climate systems, water pipes, sewers, rainwater drains and sanitary facilities. Including associated control technologies," says project manager Sjoerd Jansen. "The entire new building functions all-electric. An air handling unit on the roof ensures the supply and removal of sufficient fresh air, while an air/water heat pump provides efficient heating and cooling. Underfloor heating and cooling was chosen as the delivery system in the rooms."
Challenges in this project particularly involved the very limited installation spaces, he says. "In addition, the schedule was tight. To keep speed in the project, for example, the sewer system was prefabricated. Moreover, regular coordination meetings took place with the contractor and subsidiary installers. Together, we pulled off a fantastic project!"

Custom shade for IKC De Trampoline
The solar facades of Integraal Kindcentrum (IKC) De Trampoline in Leidschendam have been fitted with high-quality and wind-resistant screen awnings. Contractor BUKO bouwsystemen commissioned Van Berchum Zonwering to supply and install these flat-hanging screens. The Werkendam-based sun protection specialist also provided the blackout blinds for the central area.
"The polyvinylized fiberglass screen cloths on the solar facades are finished in flax gray," says director Dirk van Berchum. "Teaching and care staff can easily operate the screens, thanks to an electric switch control. The use of vertical guide profiles makes the cloths excellent wind resistant. Flapping screens are not an issue, guaranteeing a long life without damage. In addition, thanks to the guide profiles, no slanting sun can shine in; the entire window surface is covered."
The central room was equipped by Van Berchum Zonwering with roller blinds in a blackout fabric. "Here too, guide profiles were used on the sides in a cassette system. The highest roller blinds can easily be controlled by remote control, resulting in optimal (operating) comfort."
