There will be many people in the Netherlands who have no understanding of CNC machines. It is therefore quite logical that they do not know the differences between CNC turning and CNC milling know. Fortunately, this article will change that. It will also explain how these techniques work, because many Dutch people will not yet know that either. We will give a hint in advance, because the differences of these two processes are mainly found in the process of machining. The types of products the machines can deliver also vary considerably. CNC turning is a machining technique. You can do it in several ways. You can do it manually. It is also possible to do it computer-controlled. A special lathe will be used for this. These lathes can be used horizontally, but also vertically. Which direction is chosen depends on the tolerance and weight of the object to be created. Such a lathe, of course, is characterized by the fact that the product rotates, which is where the name naturally comes from. Usually round materials are used in this process, although a square material is certainly also possible. So this also definitely depends on the object that is being created using the special lathe.
In the past, of course, the first lathes ever developed still had to be operated by hand, but this is no longer the case. Back then, the lathes turned using a pair of turning wheels in the machine. So a true specialist had to operate the CNC lathes in those days. While holding the material, the chuck then had to be moved by means of the turning wheels. So the chuck then sawed figures and objects out of the product underneath, which is still basically somewhat the same today. Nevertheless, now most everything is done by computer. This applies to CNC lathes, but CNC milling machines are also generally controlled with a PC. This has kept the operator from having to constantly watch the machine, while also making it faster and easier than by hand. Often the CNC turning machines are used to make a tubular or round object.
On a CNC turning machine is the chuck, which is a specific tool used to hold in place the material being worked on. Such a chuck, by the way, can also be replaced by a collet. It will turn at different speeds, which depends mainly on the capacity of the lathe. In addition, the material and diameter also play into this. So in this way, the tool of the device will move in the rotating object, after which it will start cutting away all the material.
CNC milling, like CNC turning, is possible at a 3d printing service. Both processes are similar, yet different. In fact, CNC milling is more similar to drilling or cutting a material. Another major difference is the fact that in milling, the material remains in the same place. So the tool has to rotate and move, while the object is constantly stationary. Thus, a figure is then created from it.
