Transformation demolition requires a specialist party, who can take care of multiple specialties. For The Beatrix, Delete Sloopwerken BV from Naaldwijk was chosen as this performing party. In the first phase, they started with asbestos remediation, followed by the demolition of the complete built-in package and installations and finally the removal of the facade of The Beatrix.
"We got in touch with the project developer around 2021 to create a demolition plan," says director-owner Robert van den Berg of Delete Sloopwerken BV. "In May 2022, the first work took place, including preparing the building for demolition, remediating the asbestos and removing the entire roof structure. In the second phase, the installations of the existing building were removed and we made structural recesses and drilled some 4,000 more holes for the installations of the future residential building."
Recycling and reusing materials for new uses and building materials is now a thing of the past. "Also at The Beatrix, Delete Sloopwerken BV sorted all released materials right from the source. The carpet tiles, system walls and other usable materials were collected for reuse and the disposal of the remaining material was deliberately considered to minimize transport movements."
In the final phase, the facades were removed for the installation of window frames and balconies. "Only the concrete shell and the elevator shafts, stairwells and solid facade bands of the original building remained. At the beginning of autumn we will complete our final facade work and look back on a successful transformation project," Van den Berg concludes.
