Working to the millimeter

Normally Bouw- en Exploitatiemaatschappij J. Harberink does not take on renovation work, but for regular customer Van Omme & De Groot they gladly made an exception. It took some doing, but the result was worth it.

Construction and Operating Company J. Harberink takes over concrete work from general contractors. For example, by providing labor, but it can also supply concrete work including equipment and materials. The work performed by the company includes poured foundations, walls, floors, elevator pits, basements and prefabricated works. The company works with a small team with a lot of experience. Quality is always paramount. That is why director and owner Adriaan Raams is critical of the projects he takes on. He works mainly with regular partners. 

Buckets of concrete

De Ster involved a transformation as well as a piece of new construction in the form of an elevation. Harberink provided the transformer house for utilities there, the substantial water meter pit and the floors in the elevator pit. Existing stairs were reused in a modified stairwell, and new floors were made in an old shaft to allow the space to join the apartments. "We made modifications to existing walls and re-lined, extended and re-poured the reinforcement," says Raams. "There was little room to work in, so we had to use buckets. That made it very labor intensive."

Logistics

Since this was an existing office building, it was not always easy to get the necessary materials on site. Raams was pleased with the cooperation of Van Omme & De Groot. "They added a tower crane that rotated throughout the construction. That allowed us to reach everything better." The cooperation between the two companies again went heartily, Raams looks back. "If you can't work well together on a project like this, you shouldn't start it. You have to wait for each other to do the works and coordinate this with each other. That went very well here."
