Now that the apartments of Langs de Lijn have been completed and the residents have moved in, housing corporation de Alliantie is putting the finishing touches on a total of 565 new-build homes in Amsterdam's Sportheldenbuurt neighborhood. This last building is very appropriately named The Finish to symbolize the end of the corporation's construction efforts on this part of Zeeburgereiland.
In 2014, the Alliance took the lead on new construction here despite the crisis. So far, the corporation has built 389 social rental homes and 120 middle segment rental homes. To that will be added the 56 social rental homes at The Finish. Regional director Eddo Rats is proud of this result. "The fact that we persevered at that time has done us a lot of good. We have already been able to make over five hundred house seekers happy with an affordable home in five years."

In about a year and a half, the Sporthelden neighborhood will be "the finish line" for the Alliance. Its task will then be over while commercial parties continue to build for a few more years. Rats: "It's incredible what has already come about in five years. From no man's land to a lively neighborhood with owner-occupied and rental housing and various amenities such as general practitioners, a community room and schools. It gives a good feeling that we were the first builder on Zeeburgereiland to get this all going."
In July, the new residents of the 107 social housing units at Langs de Lijn received the key to their homes. The elongated building includes a wheelchair apartment and a five-bedroom apartment on the first floor. Some of the apartments are for parents with mild intellectual disabilities.
