Before construction of Agro de Arend began, the ground was prepared for this purpose. This total groundwork was carried out by J.E. van Laar Grond- en Straatwerk. They laid the underground infrastructure including sewers, placed the retaining walls for the adjacent ditches and did the street work. With this multi-faceted task, the Gelderland-based specialist in earthworks and paving was the first to arrive at the construction site and the last to leave.

"We weren't just there from the first moment," says Van Laar, director/owner of J.E. van Laar Grond- en Straatwerk. "We also contributed ideas from the very first moment. Together with construction company J.G. Timmer, we always looked for the optimal balance between practical and aesthetic."
Among other things, this approach resulted in a logical layout, where the client could discuss everything with one point of contact for the entire outdoor area. The approach also offered workflow advantages. "Now that we knew very early on where the parking lots and planting areas were going to be, we were able to apply the right surfaces here right away."
Attention to beautiful and efficient was involved in several decisions for the outdoor area, with which Agro de Arend wants to underline its company's green image. "It is pleasant working for a client who also pays attention to this," Van Laar says. "Moreover, we shared our concern for the environment. Where possible, we reused outgoing soil and minimized CO2 emissions. With as little traffic movement and the minimum use of equipment, we did as much work as possible. It's nice when your client notices and appreciates that."
