Over 1,200 tons of steel for Dimensio Packaging

"Commissioned by contractor Aan de Stegge Twello, we provide the engineering, calculation, production and assembly of a total of 1,224 tons of steel," says Gerwin de Greef, project manager at Van Ee Steel Specialists. "Just before the 2020 construction period we started production, after which the assembly of the main supporting structure started at the end of September. A luxurious look was chosen for the office area. Because a large part of the construction remains in sight, we applied beautiful wind bracing from Willemsanker, for example. Moreover, because of the integration of a company swimming pool, large parts of the main supporting structure have been galvanized and powder coated."

Dimensio is a great example of co-creation, he says. "We were already involved in the design phase by the design manager and architect and contributed to the detailing of the main staircase, among other things. This organically shaped and nine-ton staircase was transported in two parts from our production site in Barneveld to Almere and lifted and suspended using a heavy truck crane. Thanks to our 'total steel concept', we were able to test the construction for the forces of the stairs at an early stage. And thanks to excellent coordination, the facade could be closed immediately after installation."

In the finishing phase, the main staircase will be clad in durable oak, resulting in a high-quality finish. "This same oak wood is reflected in the finish of the office," De Greef said. "In addition, several balustrades will be fitted with high-quality stainless steel cables, ensuring a luxurious and open appearance."

Aluminum facade systems

The new building of Dimensio Verpakkingen in Almere is not only transparent, light and fresh, but also functional and inviting. The aluminum curtain walls, frames and doors from Aluvo make a significant contribution to this.

"The office section will be equipped all around with aluminum curtain walls," says Klaas Mulder, project manager at Aluvo. "The basis of these curtain walls is the Schüco FW 50 system, which is distinguished by a narrow profile appearance (50 mm) and generous glass panes. The curtain wall incorporates a number of large sliding doors and an automatically driven turnstile was chosen as the entrance." Part of the curtain walls will be fire-resistant, he says. "Since there will be a swimming pool in the office area, the curtain walls have undergone an extra durable surface treatment. Also, the glass is equipped with a special edge connection."

Sandwich facade panels were chosen for the warehouse, stylishly combined with Aluvo's aluminum curtain walls, window frames and doors. "For the window frames, the Kawneer RT 72 series was chosen." All products are manufactured on behalf of Aan de Stegge Twello at Aluvo's production site in Apeldoorn.
