Although the new control center at the port of Scheveningen is designed like the wheelhouse of a seagoing vessel, it is well anchored "to" 37 pieces of soil displacing screw piles. Franki Grondtechnieken was responsible for the realization of this foundation at a location with a long history, as evidenced by many objects present in the subsoil.
Since December 2021, BESIX has been working on the construction of the new control center on the Noordelijk Havenhoofd, at the end of Scheveningen's boulevard and harbor. "We were commissioned by BESIX, our parent company for more than 15 years, to install the foundation piles," says Jan-Wim Verhoeff, director of Franki Grondtechnieken. "These were soil displacement screw piles of 17.5 meters length in a diameter of 420 mm. We spent about five days with one pile. All in all, a small job for us, but no less interesting for that. Here and there we also came across some relics from the past, including old anchor rods, but that didn't cause any major problems."
With more than 110 years of experience in deep foundations, Franki Grondtechnieken is well accustomed. "We focus particularly on the more specialized techniques, such as the installation of vibration-free and soil displacement piles in a wide variety of applications," Verhoeff says. "We are known for our broad expertise, have our own engineering department and can think along in solutions or alternative foundation methods at an early stage. Our strength lies mainly in providing added value for our customers. It is not you ask, we turn. No, we dare to ask critical questions and thus regularly come up with alternatives that are technically better or economically more interesting. We are also able to take on a complete construction pit turnkey, taking care of the total coordination. From the installation of walls, piles, anchors and excavation to even including the pouring of the basement floor, so that the contractor can start immediately."
