Building automation company PCS outgrew its premises and is currently building a new office building in Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht. Together with sister company Elektroservice Holland, Klimaatservice Holland is engineering and installing the W and E installation for the new building.
The project includes two floors of office space and a semi-underground parking garage. "The project was set up as a construction team last year," says Pieter Meerkerk, project manager at Klimaatservice Holland. "We know client PCS well, as we regularly contract it as a subcontractor for various projects we commission. So now the roles are reversed and we are working for her."
Klimaatservice and Elektroservice are installing the W and E systems in the new building, excluding the control, data, fire alarm and camera systems. These are purchased separately, as are the two heat pumps and the air handling unit installed in the basement.
Says Meerkerk, "The delivery of heating and cooling is mainly through various climate ceiling islands. For air supply, floor ventilation has been installed: under the raised computer floor, ventilation is blown in through a number of supply devices." A sophisticated grid distribution ensures perfect air distribution, while CO2 sensors guarantee a demand-controlled air supply. By designing the plenum as a pressure box, only a minimum of ductwork is required. The used ventilation air is extracted at the top of the room, according to the principle that warm air rises.
The project is being developed sustainably in a circular manner, from municipal regulations for this area. "In this case, the use of PVC is not allowed. In addition, we are not allowed to make permanent joints, such as with glue, pur, welding or poured joints. Definitive joints such as welding are only allowed for piping systems that are under pressure. Other systems must be provided with sliding joints and cuffs. The E-installations must thereby be made pluggable," said Meerkerk. This is obviously an important aspect to take into account during the calculation and purchasing process. An external consultant checks these components during the construction period. "Upon completion of the project, the materials passport must be completed. This passport contains information about the type of material, quantities, assembly method and location of all objects. It also contains information about the quality and financial value of the installation."
