Durable, representative lighting in an open educational setting

Sylvania supplied a variety of luminaires for the school building. In the preliminary process, the lighting manufacturer was involved in the lighting advice and the drafting and development of the lighting plan. "In April 2019, Binx Smartility asked us to help think about the lighting of the Almende College Laudis," explains senior project engineer Henny Stemerdink of Sylvania. "In addition to the applicable lighting standards, the open educational setting of the school building was an important starting point. What is special about this is that the circulation areas also serve as learning and working spaces. The entire building is seen as one educational space. That requires a different lighting approach than in a traditional school building with corridors and classrooms." Another important principle that Sylvania included in the advice and lighting plan was the sustainable nature of the school building.

LED panels, downlights and spotlights

Until the end of June 2020, Sylvania, in consultation with Binx Smartility, worked out the lighting plan in detail. Then the implementation started. Stemerdink: "For the open spaces in the building we supplied our Start Flat PanelLED DALI. These luminaires provide a spatial and even light image. The atrium, the heart of the building where all open spaces come together, is fitted with the decorative Ascent LED downlights. Extra attention was required for the void in the atrium due to its approximately eleven-meter height. The Expospot 90 with a light beam of only 25 degrees provides efficient and highly representative lighting here. For the washrooms, we supplied the Insaver HO Topper LED with an IP44 protection rating,
especially for use in damp areas."

The sustainability of the lighting is mainly in the use of high-quality LED luminaires. Daylight-dependent lighting control has also been consistently used on the window sides.

Very pleasant cooperation

"A wonderful project," Stemerdink reflects. "In yet another more than pleasant cooperation with the team from Binx Smartility, we provided this transparent and open school building with sustainable, representative lighting. Together with Binx Smartility, we are very proud of the final result."
