Between December 2019 and March 2021, two to a maximum of 20 painters were working simultaneously to give all the building layers a nice coat of paint. "In total, including additional work, we put in almost 11,500 hours," assures project manager Michel de Heer.
The painting company from Rotterdam was active on all floors. De Heer: "In the basement, our assignment mainly involved the painting of corridors, technical areas, offices and the transparent coating of the cells. From the first floor to the third floor, it was mainly the courtrooms, offices and corridors in the back areas of the courtrooms that required our attention. On the fifth floor, we took care of the large meeting rooms and the restaurant. In addition, we whitewashed all the fixed walls of the office floors on the sixth to tenth floors. In total, this involved 37,000 square meters of sauce work. An extensive job done under great time pressure and with strict safety requirements. That makes it a particularly suitable project for us!"
The most unusual part was the staircase in the central hall. De Heer: "The entire structure had been delivered to work ready to use, but it had suffered a bit from weather and assembly outside so it had to be completely repainted. The staircase had already been fitted with a scaffold by third parties, but it was too close to the walls to use for painting. Our painters then repainted the stairs using long rolling poles from the surrounding floors and from the stairs."
Painting company Groenenboom painted the paneling and window frames in addition to a lot of paint work and applied semi-permanent anti-graffiti coating to part of the exterior walls. The cooperation between Groenenboom and Heijmans was good. As a subcontractor, Groenenboom was therefore rated an 8 by Heijmans.
