At the ISH fair in Frankfurt am Main, WOLF Energiesystemen packed big. Eye-catchers at the stand were a new, decentralized WTW unit for existing communal areas such as meeting rooms, shared offices, teaching rooms and dining areas and an extension of the CHA monoblock series with a new output of 16/20 kW, as well as the new FHA monoblock heat pump series. With this latest series, WOLF is perfectly responding to an important demand from the project market, which is looking for affordable and easy-to-install heat pumps with a low Global Warming Potential (GWP).
For several years, WOLF Energy Systems has been known as a reliable supplier of split heat pumps, which allow homes to be heated and cooled efficiently and energy efficiently. "Because of changing regulations, however, split systems are coming under increasing pressure," notes Heating Team Leader Maarten Ouwehand. "The systems have to be filled with refrigerant on-site. Moreover, connections must be made in the field, so there is always a (minimal) risk of refrigerant leakage. To combat this, we introduced the CHA monoblock air-to-water heat pump back in 2019. The CHA monoblock was developed with an eye on easy and safe installation as well as long-term use. Moreover, design and functionality come together perfectly. Whereas the CHA focuses primarily on the high-end market, with the introduction of the FHA series, its unique features and technology are now also becoming available to the project market."
The FHA monoblock air-to-water heat pump series is ideally suited for serial new construction and renovation projects, says Ouwehand. "Project developers and installers have a choice of five monoblock models with different capacities: the FHA-05/06 (6 kW), the FHA-06/07 (7 kW), the FHA-08/10 (10 kW), the FHA-11/14 (14 kW) and the FHA-14/17 (17 kW). If desired, these heat pumps can also be set up in cascade, where up to five FHA air-to-water heat pumps can be coupled. As a result, even large(er) power requirements are no problem." The monoblock design enables both heating, cooling and domestic hot water preparation. To ensure high DHW capacity and comfort, the heat pump unit can be combined with a 200 or 300-liter cylinder in a compact tower arrangement (FHA heat pump center). The WOLF Portal Server and WOLF Smart App enable easy remote monitoring. "The FHA series is also 100% Smart Grid-ready and can thus be connected to a photovoltaic (PV) system. This also brings self-sufficient living
at your fingertips."
The FHA monoblock operates with the modern and environmentally friendly refrigerant R32 (GWP: 675), which up to 70% is more durable and efficient the widely used R410A (GWP: 2,088), says Ouwehand. "Moreover, this refrigerant enables high temperatures of up to 65°C. As a result, the heat pump can also be connected to existing home radiators, provided the home meets all the pre-conditions in terms of insulation. Hygienic domestic hot water preparation also becomes possible. By heating the water in the buffer tank to above 60°C once a week, for example, Legionella does not get a chance to multiply."
The FHA series comes standard in gray, making it a perfect match for modern home architecture. The monoblock heat pumps are available to order now. The first heat pumps will be delivered in Q3-2023. Ouwehand expects a lot from the series, which will take over an important part of the split market and offer interesting new opportunities for the project market. In doing so, he does not fear the media reports that the environmental costs of heat pumps have been underestimated for years. "WOLF does not recognize itself at all in this reporting," he emphasizes. "When developing our products, we put a very conscious and high priority on people, the environment and the use of materials. The mentioned refrigerant leaks absolutely do not occur with our systems. Moreover, we use environmentally friendly (FHA series) and natural (CHA series) refrigerants, with a significantly lower environmental impact than the R410a mentioned. Users do not have to worry about this at all."
