4,000 bikes: comfortably, neatly and safely parked

From city bikes to electric bikes, crate bikes, racing bikes and children's bikes: in bicycle parking IJboulevard all bikes can be placed comfortably, neatly and safely in the designated racks. In the semi-floating bicycle parking facility, Klaver Fietsparkeren has realized no fewer than 4,000 high-quality bicycle parking spaces on behalf of Van Hattum & Blankevoort. The Hoogeveen bicycle parking specialist was also responsible for a piece of advice and design guidance, as a result of which user-friendliness, efficiency, safety and appearance come together perfectly.

Klaver Fietsparkeren specializes in advising, designing, assembling and installing user-friendly and safe bicycle parking systems and is certainly no stranger to Amsterdam. Following the example of several neighborhood parking facilities spread throughout the city, the company has also realized a bicycle parking system for over 1,700 bicycles under the Beursplein. "We like to be involved in projects at an early stage so that the number of square meters of bicycle parking space can be used as efficiently as possible, a logical routing is created for users and social safety is raised to the highest level," says Peter Hanekamp, Operational Director of Klaver Fietsparkeren. "In bicycle parking IJboulevard, these themes come together perfectly."

Comprehensive advice

"At the start of the project, we mapped which bikes people mostly use to come to Amsterdam Central Station," Hanekamp says. "Typical of station environments, many visitors use old city bikes (station bikes). But the bike parking is also close to the city, restaurants and stores, so luxury city bikes, electric bikes, racing bikes, crate bikes, bikes with child seats and children's bikes also need to find a good parking spot. We recommended the right racks for this, while also taking into account the aesthetic wishes of the architect and client as well as the correct positioning and routing. In this way we provided a suitable solution for all concerned."

Double bicycle parking capacity per square meter 

Chosen was the 2ParkUp storey bicycle parking system; a space-saving and two-tier bicycle rack with rear wheel lock that provides double bicycle parking capacity per square meter. While an integrated gas spring helps lift the bike, a unique damping system provides a controlled descent when the bike is removed from the rack again. "Thanks to different center-to-center distances, numerous bike models can be parked with ease," said Mr. K.

SROI ambition

All bike racks were delivered just-in-time to a central hub and then transported by water to bicycle parking facility IJboulevard. Here Klaver Fietsparkeren's own assembly crews were on hand for the assembly, says Hanekamp. "Both for assembly and assembly we have traditionally worked partly with people with a distance to the labor market, which also aligned us with the SROI ambition of
the congregation."
