Butchery chooses trusted electrical partner

For the expansion of its production location, Slagerijen Kaldenberg has chosen Gedo Elektro, an electrical contractor with extensive experience in complex projects within the food sector. “With more than 35 years of practical experience, including in butcheries and other food processing environments, we know what is needed technically and organizationally to carry out this type of expansion safely and in a controlled way,” says Koen van de Ven, technical coordinator at Gedo Elektro. Within this project, Gedo works together with regular chain partners, including the contractor and other known parties.

For the expansion, Slagerijen Kaldenberg itself prepared the complete electrical design, including specifications. “The tender took place on the basis of this design, where our specific knowledge in the food sector and our experience with similar expansions were decisive,” Van de Ven explains.

Gedo Elektro is responsible for the complete electrical installation. This will include the modification and expansion of the existing transformer substation for the new building and possible future battery storage. “This anticipates further sustainability and the possibility of active energy management in the future,” Van de Ven said. 

In the existing building a new main distributor is placed, from which the sub-distributors of the new building are fed. Gedo Elektro is providing the complete new power supply infrastructure for this. In addition, a new grounding and equalization installation will be realized. “Equalization is essential for electrical safety, especially in wet and hygienic areas,” explains Van de Ven. “Safety and operational reliability are paramount here.”

Besides the power supply, Gedo Elektro provides part of the lighting installation and various control and command systems. The power installation, sound installation, emergency lighting, cabling for the alarm installation, CCTV and data installation also fall within the scope. A major challenge within the project is the yet-to-be-planned switching moment for the transformer extension. “That is a critical point in the project, because business operations should be affected as little as possible,” says Van de Ven. Through careful technical preparation and close coordination with the grid operator, he expects this critical phase to go smoothly. “Of course, we will be on standby during this phase to act immediately in case of emergencies.”
