Eye Center Noordholland Heerhugowaard | New building as calling card of identity and professionalism

In March 2020, Eye Center Noordholland will move to a new building near the Heerhugowaard train station. A construction team with EGM Architects and contractor Dick de Boer designed a striking three-story building with a façade made of white stucco, with many and high openings and a spacious and light patio as its green heart. The concrete skeleton construction was finished by the construction deadline and by the end of the year the building should be ready, after which testing of the medical equipment can follow.

Eye Center Noordholland has experienced tremendous growth in recent years and sees the demand for ophthalmic care continuing to increase in the coming years. This center is increasingly engaged in super-specialty eye care and research. The current building was inaugurated in February 2010 and the operating room was also completed in July of that year. "The eye center is a household name in the region and has therefore completely outgrown its current location. This is why the management is investing in a new building volume with an area of 4,500 m² on Gildestraat, near the Heerhugowaard train station. It is immediately the first business on the strip of land behind Hotel Jules between the N242, the railroad and the railroad bridge," Dick de Boer indicates. "Behind a striking open facade in white stucco is a building with a clear and distinct structure. Patients, visitors and staff enter the building through the same entrance and find themselves in the reception area on the ground floor, the consultation, treatment and examination rooms on the second floor or the offices and surgery complex another floor higher. A spacious and bright patio forms the green heart of this building."

Restoration, renovation and new construction

Contractor Dick de Boer is the ideal partner for this project. The Hoorn-based firm was founded in 1984 with a focus on renovating existing buildings and restoring historic properties. For example, the contractor has modernized about 20 restaurants of the McDonald's group and renovated offices for real estate investor Vastint. "Today our team consists of eight specialists in restoration, eight men on non-residential construction and four employees in the office. In addition, we have a flexible shell of another 20 people. We always think along with the architect and client in order to optimize the construction process and strive to make each project run smoothly and flawlessly and prevent disruption to the users," says the business manager. "We often start with a smaller job with a particular client and are asked back later for a larger project. For example, 2 years ago we were contacted by the ophthalmologist of the Eye Center Noordhollland to perform some optimizations to his private home. Today we are building the new building for the Eye Center."

Tight planning

The new Eye Center in Heerhugowaard is under construction. Just before the construction holidays, the concrete skeleton was finished and by the end of this year, the construction work should be fully completed. Time will then be taken in the first months of 2020 for thorough installation and testing of all medical equipment to open its doors in March. 20190725 150913 1
