For the renovation and expansion of office building Zwaansvliet in Amsterdam, Star 75 windows with some new profiles were chosen, while in the transformation of factory 'De Bij' in Koog aan de Zaan Max Light Steel systems were integrated.

Renovation of an office building

In Amsterdam, the old office building Zwaansvliet is being completely transformed into the stylish and modern office complex "The Lobby. After all, the building no longer met current requirements. Under the direction of RoosRos Architects, the building is being modernized without compromising its robust structure. The building will be stripped down to its basic structure by WJ Projects and then expanded with two additional floors, which will seamlessly match the original architecture. This was an important condition of the City of Amsterdam for the renovation. The addition of additional square meters and the relocation of the entrance to the center optimizes the layout and changes this building from a single-tenant to a multi-tenant structure. For the superstructure, the building partners chose a lightweight construction, which provides good acoustics and allows for two additional floors instead of one.

The facade will also be completely modernized and preserved to meet future requirements. In the process, APS Facade will replace the old window frames with modern aluminum frames type Star 75 from Aliplast. "This system has a built-in depth of 75 mm for the outer frame and 84 mm for the sash. It is suitable for glass thicknesses of 12 to 61 mm for the frame and 21 to 69 mm for the sash. With a Uw-value of 0.94 W/m²K, an airtightness class 4 and an acoustic value of 47.1 dB (-1,-4), this solution fits perfectly into applications with the most stringent requirements in terms of thermal and acoustic insulation," says project consultant Joris de Zeeuw. "Especially for this project, we developed some new profiles in collaboration with the architect, processor and contractor. This allows the assembly of the many glass sections to be done more efficiently and makes life easier for the installation teams."

From factory to place to live

The former honey factory 'De Bij' in Koog aan de Zaan was also completely transformed. In the monumental industrial building, property developer Ten Brinke Vastgoedontwikkeling Enter and construction company Ten Brinke Bouw Doetinchem, in collaboration with Hooyschuurse Architects and Advisors from Wormerveer, created a residential project with 21 lofts with an industrial character. In addition, there was also a new building with 74 owner-occupied apartments. The municipality wanted the authentic look of the building to be preserved. "The original steel window frames gave way to our Max Light Steel, which not only preserves the industrial character but also offers higher resistance to rust. This style is ideally suited for renovations of monuments or industrial buildings, preserving the old look," explains De Zeeuw. "This product has an installation depth at the frame of 105 mm and at the sash of 97 mm and is suitable for glass thicknesses up to 59 mm. With a Uf value of 1.8 W/m²K, an airtightness class 4, a watertightness class E1650 and an acoustic value of up to 47.2 dB (-2,-6), this system scores highly in all areas. In addition to aesthetics and insulation, fire resistance also stands out. Indeed, certificates for both EI30 and EW30/60 are available for this system."

Durable windows with exceptional color guarantee
