Soundproof facades thanks to balcony glazing and facade screens

The Park Triangel neighborhood in Waddinxveen was recently enriched with 98 rental apartments, divided over three residential buildings. The characteristic residential buildings have been realized in the triangle of the Beijerincklaan, the Zuidelijke Rondweg and the Gouda-Alphen railroad line, and close to the A12 and A20 motorways. In order to reduce the high noise levels on the facades and bring the living comfort up to the required standard, developer BPD Woningfonds and contractor De Vries en Verburg contacted Mview+ at an early stage.

To keep out excess traffic noise from cars and trains, a noise barrier was not realistic, knows Waldo Duin, director of Mview+. "The new residential buildings had to feature at least one soundproof façade. Because the residences in the residential buildings are oriented on two sides, we mapped out the possible solutions for both the gallery side and the non-gallery side. It was decided to provide all exterior spaces on the non-gallery side with M-view balcony glazing. This balcony glazing is composed of a glass parapet and certified glass folding walls that can reduce noise by up to 22 dB. As a result, comfort, ventilation and noise reduction come together in a unique way, with a highly usable outdoor space as the icing on the cake." The balcony glazing comes standard in monolithic tempered glass, he says. "What is special about this is the steel framework, which allows the balconies to fit perfectly with the classic architectural style envisioned by architect LSWA. As many parts of the balcony glazing as possible were prefabricated in our factory in Tiel, which allowed the assembly to be carried out efficiently."

Reduction of incident noise

For the end walls of Building A and C, Mview+ engineered, produced and assembled imposing Silent Air Facade Screens 3 meters wide and 9 and 12 meters high, respectively, says Duin. "This also greatly reduces the incident noise on these facades. The noise load on the new facades remains below the limit value of 48 dB, as specified in the Noise Abatement Act."

Transparent and pure

Mview+ develops, produces, delivers and installs glass solutions for optimal living and working comfort. Both for inside and outside and from new construction to renovation and transformation. All solutions are based on the pillars of insulation, light and sound, consist mainly of glass and are applied as 'pure' as possible in projects. As a result, the transparency of the glass is exploited to the full.
