Sustainable construction with healthcare functions around green courtyard
Friday, October 1, 2021 saw the festive start of construction of Boerhaave Medisch Centrum Utrecht. Alderman Klaas Verschuure (Spatial Development, Leidsche Rijn and mbo), with a firm push on the red button, gave the symbolic start signal for construction on the plot at Hertogswetering 2 in Utrecht. The newly built medical center is located on the 'healthcare cluster' of Business Park De Wetering-Haarrijn and thus nicely complements the other healthcare providers, such as the Antonius Hospital.
At the festive start of the construction of Boerhaave Medisch Centrum on the Hertogswetering, business neighbors, delegates from the Municipality of Utrecht, Business Park de Wetering-Haarrijn, Ondernemersfonds Utrecht, the construction team of Willy Naessens and the management team of Boerhaave Medisch Centrum were present. Alderman Klaas Verschuure emphasized the importance of the establishment of Boerhaave Medisch Centrum on Business Park De Wetering-Haarrijn: "We are pleased that the Boerhaave Medisch Centrum has chosen Utrecht and that a great place has been found. Moreover, it is great that the center also gives MBO students room to gain work experience. In addition to the many medical institutions in our city, the center is a good addition to that palette.'' said the alderman.
Ilse van Waardenburg, clinic manager of Boerhaave Medical Center, recounts with pride: "This is a historic moment for us. Our wish was to position our second location (the current location is in Amsterdam) centrally in the country, where many suitable staff can be reached and at the same time we can easily travel back and forth between the branches (within 25 minutes). This is how we ended up with this extremely suitable location in Utrecht, which is very easily accessible for patients and staff by public transport, bicycle and car." Architect Thomas Bernhardt of Network of Architects & Planners of the construction of the medical center adds: "The new building has a green heart. The sustainable construction is designed around a central courtyard garden to which all care functions are placed. This allows patients and staff to enjoy maximum peace and quiet and views of greenery in this urban environment." Boerhaave Medical Center will offer the highest quality of care and the full range of plastic surgery treatments in Utrecht. Completion of the medical center is scheduled for fall 2022.
