Dutch company with German roots
The 95th anniversary is a great time to look back at history. Marcel van der Sluijs, director of Hermeta, says: "The roots of our company go back to Germany. The German family Thamer fled to Rotterdam in the 1920s because of the economic crisis to start a metalworking company here. This went wrong when war broke out and the family was captured. The entire company ended up in the hands of the Dutch state, which sold it to the Herrewijn family. After the war, the Thamer family was reinstated and regained ownership of the company for 50%. They settled in Asperen. Now 95 years later, the grandchildren of the Thamer family still own half of the shares."
Man's comfort central
"We are a leader in coming up with sustainable and innovative solutions. We always work with the customer to find the best solution and think one step further," says Marcel. They do this not only in coming up with solutions, but also with their own staff. Everyone gets the chance to work at Hermeta, where fun is paramount. Production takes place in Asperen. People with mental disabilities also work here. A total of about 130 people work in Asperen.

Local partners
Hermeta is the first Dutch manufacturer to use recycled aluminum for construction and furniture hardware 75%. Marcel: "We find it important to work with local partners and to think about the environment. We do not get the aluminum from China, but choose close by. We also find local parties important, for example, we will get our electricity from the new wind farm here in Geldermalsen."
Three divisions with a shared vision
"We are best known for our interior accessories that may not immediately stand out, such as handrail holders and hooks, but are of the highest quality. We have since added two divisions, each in its own factory at the same address: Interior Construction-including lockers, sanitary walls and interior concepts-and Façade Construction. So three branches of sport, each standing on its own and reinforcing each other wherever possible." says Marcel. Sustainability, quality, reliability and innovation are important core values within Hermeta. What the three divisions further have in common is the use of the basic material aluminum and the delivery of design products that bring comfort to buildings.

Key Projects
"In recent years, we have also played an increasingly clear role in facade construction and interior construction. For example, we have supplied the changing rooms in the Pieter van den Hoogenband swimming pool and the Nike headquarters. In facade construction, for example, we are proud of the project for the LSI laboratory in Utrecht and the Danish Zeemanskerk in Rotterdam made with the unique tombak (the only facade with this material in the Netherlands)." Hermeta has also delivered major projects for the interior accessories division. We provided the Efteling theater with checkroom systems. We have also supplied aluminum wastebaskets, hooks and handles to the Dutch Railways, among others, for many years.

Future
"In recent years there has also been an increasing focus on design. We look closely at interior design trends. We also work with designers for various products, such as with Edward van Vliet for the Kabuki collection and with Marjan Veltkamp for the HerboLock Acoustics. In the future, we want to play a leading role in Europe and America with interior accessories. We want to keep innovating to keep up with the times. One thing is for sure, our strength is in our people. Employees must enjoy going to work in order to ultimately create beautiful products." says Marcel.
