Wide variety of window frames and curtain walls

On the Verlegde Bosdreef in Rotterdam, a new business park is being built: New Kralingen Business. The plan comprises approximately 30,000 m2 of construction spread over four buildings. Commissioned by De Vries en Verburg, Lieftink Geveltechniek has delivered and assembled the facade elements for these buildings and has also realized a noise barrier. A look back with technical director Tom van Dorp and sales manager Jarno van der Graft on the wide variety of window frames and curtain walls, some of which are also fire-resistant.

Lieftink Geveltechniek is a familiar party to contractor De Vries en Verburg. "We have taken on several projects together in the past," says Van der Graft. "In that capacity, we were approached to make an offer for Nieuw Kralingen Business. As a full construction partner, we picked up this project in good cooperation with De Vries en Verburg at the sales stage, the engineering stage and the final implementation stage. As a result, we delivered all the window frames and curtain walls for the four buildings as well as a noise barrier."

From construction market to office building

New Kralingen Business includes an approximately 4,000-square-meter hardware store, a multi-tenant business building with 16 business units, a safestore for individuals and a stand-alone office building. "We considered the four buildings as separate subprojects," Van Dorp explains. "The hardware store formed the largest subproject with about 800 m2 of curtain walling and some window frames. With that, we first realized the facade closure, including the specific entrance facade, and then installed several more interior facades in the building." The company building was executed by Lieftink with some 400 m2 of window elements. "These are characterized by a standard design, although the window frames in the rear facade were substantial in size. These are therefore glazed from the outside." The safestore is again equipped with a curtain wall, over 300 m2 in total. The curtain wall is partially fire-resistant and has specific stickers. Finally, the office building consists of 800 m2 of window frames, partly fire-resistant. "We also provided the typesetting for this."

Lieftink Geveltechniek used exclusively Schüco systems at Nieuw Kralingen Business. "We do not do anything else and are therefore 100% Schüco processor, because we are convinced that Schüco is qualitatively the best system in the market," assures Van Dorp. "With the realization of a sound facade between the safestore and the office building, Nieuw Kralingen Business forms, as it were, one big sound barrier for the residential area behind it. A very nice project for us, realized in a very pleasant cooperation with the contractor."
