Almost 1 in 10 offices still does not have the right energy label to be used as offices. That is the conclusion drawn by the Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland with its interim score on April 1 this year. The RVO also reports on its website that 1 in 3 offices does not yet have an energy label. A shame, says Kingspan Light + Air, because a lot of potential remains. Since January 1, 2023, there is a requirement that all office buildings must have at least energy label C to be used as offices.
"Existing buildings lend themselves well to being refurbished. This can be done with a renovation or with a transformation," says Marcel Greuel, manager of renovation and transformation at Kingspan Light + Air. "Often the basis of a building is simply already good." So Kingspan Light + Air's expertise comes in handy when a building owner wants to renovate an existing building. "Kingspan Light + Air not only supplies glass roofs but is also a specialist in fire safety and climate settings. By combining these three areas, you can make a nice hit."
That it makes sense to work on sustainability is also evident at the Civilion training institute in Den Bosch, where the old polycarbonate skylight has been replaced by an insulated glass gable roof. Thanks in part to this effort, the results are also immediately visible at the training institute, which has gone from energy label B to A++.
After a thorough investment, it is important to keep all systems, whether roofs, fire safety systems or air conditioning systems, in good condition. Maintenance is thus the key to maintaining an optimally functioning building. "Maintenance goes beyond cleaning a glass roof once so it looks nice. It's also about certifying fire safety systems and making sure cooling systems are properly maintained," says Frenk van Aggelen, Director of Sales at Kingspan Light + Air. "For us, proper maintenance starts with having the right papers: the right training, courses and certifications. Our mechanics and maintenance experts constantly keep up to date with new systems, working methods and laws and regulations. That way we can guarantee every day that we deliver the highest quality so that you, as a building owner, can also enjoy our solutions for as long as possible."
So at Kingspan Light + Air, you've come to the right place to have a custom suit measured for your building. "That tailored suit is made by taking a broad look at how a building can be improved. A new insulated glass roof? But then how are you going to address the heat in the summer? We can take measurements for that, too, to get insight into how we can control the temperature. And at the same time, we can simulate how to optimize the escape routes in the building," says technical commercial director Michel Verwaal.
Because Kingspan Light + Air has its own R&D departments for these areas of expertise, a solution is possible for any building. "From a freeform glass roof, over natural and mechanical smoke and heat extraction to air quality accurate to a nanoparticle," Verwaal concludes.
