Greater comfort and lower living costs as a result of energy conservation

Currently, Nijhuis Bouw B.V., one of the regular construction partners for the Alliance's E-Sequent renovation projects, is working on making 91 homes on the Dierenpaden in Leusderkwartier more sustainable.

Insulate and more

Soesterkwartier, Kruiskamp, Liendert, Schuilenburg, ...: these are just a few neighborhoods in Amersfoort where sustainability work has recently been carried out on homes owned by the Alliance. These works not only make the homes more comfortable, but also result in lower housing costs and contribute to a sustainable world. "As one of the housing association's regular partners, we have already taken care of several homes. In this phase it is the turn of 91 homes on the Dierenpaden in the Leusderkwartier," says Arno Dankers, project manager at Nijhuis Bouw. "We first looked at what improvements we could carry out in this pre-war neighborhood. For example, roofs, facades and floors will be better insulated. We are replacing roof tiles, window frames and glazing, and the indoor climate in the homes will also be significantly improved by installing demand-controlled ventilation based on CO2 sensors. To improve fire protection, smoke detectors are being installed and on the roof we are installing solar panels."

Increasing sustainability is done mainly by insulating the outside of the homes. This includes replacing window frames and glazing.

Renovate and the protect nature

Making homes more sustainable does not only benefit humans. Animals also benefit. In this renovation, the building partners are in fact bound by the applicable rules concerning flora and fauna. "Thanks to our experience, we at Nijhuis Bouw can also provide the necessary advice in that area. This project on the Dierenpaden is a good example of that. During the preparation phase, we made an analysis of all the flora and fauna present in this neighborhood. Thus it was decided to create permanent habitats for the various bird species and to integrate permanent masonry boxes for the bats in the end walls," Dankers concludes. "As a specialist in renovation, such a project is right up our alley We started in November 2020 and by October of this year the work should be completed. Since these are occupied single-family homes, clear agreements between the construction partners and with the residents are crucial."
