For the new C3 office building in Amsterdam, finishing specialist 4-U-2 is installing the insulating ceilings in the parking basement, the walls for the toilet groups and possibly the partition walls between the offices and the sound-absorbing system ceilings.
The company provides walls, ceilings and floors for some 35 construction companies in renovation and new construction projects. The company has two owners: Nico Dekker and Frank Appel. The latter is a retired owner, but he still checks in on projects. Planner Nico Kamp: "For our clients we install, among other things, metal stud walls and suspended ceilings. But we can also level uneven floors in old buildings. So our field of work is quite broad."
The company consists of an inside staff of two people, seven superintendents and a flexible shell of 35 freelancers. Vesting Bouw is one of 4-U-2's regular clients. "When its larger projects require walls and ceilings to be mounted, we get involved as early as the proposal stage. We have worked together on several projects. Recently, we renovated and insulated another old complex, which includes apartments. We provided all the drywall ceilings and partition walls in the apartments there."
Work on the new C3 office building in Amsterdam has not yet started for the finishing company. "We cannot start until the building is wind and watertight. That will probably be at the beginning of the fourth quarter. We are installing 700 m2 of wood fiber-based insulating ceiling in the parking basement. We will attach this to the concrete shell with screws. This will be a tight unit that will not need any further finishing. Then we install the walls for the toilet groups. Once it is known which tenants are coming into the building and what their wishes are, we also provide the partition walls between the offices and the sound-absorbing system ceilings."
