Kickoff will take place during the first edition of the Fruitpacking District Festival on Saturday, June 3, 2023.
Barendrecht will soon have a new neighborhood: Fruitpacking District. This new living environment will accommodate approximately 2,600 new homes, of which 60% will be affordable. There will also be various amenities as well as a successful business community. On Saturday, June 3, the kick-off of this special area development will take place during the first edition of the Fruitpacking District Festival in Barendrecht. Everyone who wants to live in the new neighborhood can actively think along with the plans during the festival and participate in discussions with architects Inbo, JVST and Juurlink+Geluk about the design of the first plan area.
Fruitpacking District is located in the middle of the industrial dynamics of Dutch Fresh Port, the logistical trading center of fruit and vegetables, and right next to Barendrecht train station. The entire area is a development by Emborion Vastgoed, which also owns Fruitpacking District. TBI company ERA Contour is co-developer of and will build the first phase of the project that will include 550 homes. Inbo, JVST and Juurlink+Geluk are responsible for the architectural design.
As part of De Stationstuinen, the Barendrecht family company Emborion Vastgoed is transforming its current logistics property into Fruitpacking District. With approximately 2,600 homes and 36,500m2 of amenities, offices and makerspaces, it constitutes some 70% of the total area development of The Station Gardens. The new living environment houses a mix of owner-occupied and rental housing, ranging from social to mid-rent, in various sizes. In the first phase of Fruitpacking District, the parties involved will realize approximately 550 homes and appropriate facilities. The new neighborhood will thus become a vibrant place where everything is within reach and where living, working, learning and recreation come together seamlessly.
The most striking aspect of Fruitpacking District is its focus on food. Based on the ideas of food architect Carolyn Steel, those involved strive to create a neighborhood where food is central. The project aims to increase engagement with food and promote a healthy neighborhood. Through close cooperation with companies in Dutch Fresh Port, Fruitpacking District offers space to innovative companies that can convert residual streams of fruits and vegetables into valuable food products or raw materials. The idea "good food makes good living" is also the starting point during the first edition of the Fruitpacking District Festival.
The kick-off of Fruitpacking District takes place on Saturday, June 3, from 11:00 - 19:00 around Café Clementine at Spoorlaan 7 in Barendrecht, during the first edition of the Fruitpacking District Festival. Anyone interested in area development is welcome to attend the festival. At the event, interested parties can think along with the architects about the new residential area and visit a market including RotPot by Keukenboeren, Lolo Vins, Grof Vintage. Workshops such as wild champagne making, fermentation and a children's workshop with leftover materials by Scrap XL, are also available. Both festival vibes but also thinking about the first part of this completely new residential area. The co-creation takes place between 11:00 - 15:00 on the festival grounds.
