The Admiralty, Flushing: Family project on Zeeland soil

No fewer than seven (!) companies of De Hoop Terneuzen were involved in the construction of the 23 single-family houses and 27 apartments of De Admiraliteit in Vlissingen. While Pit Beton produced and drove all the piles for the project, Schokindustrie took care of the production and delivery of the precast foundation beams. Sterk Beton produced the precast elevator pit for the apartment building, while De Hoop Pekso signed off on the rib-cassette floors, hollow-core slabs and wide slab floors of the apartments and single-family homes. And VTO (concrete), Bouwcenter Logus-De Hoop (facing bricks) and MegaMix Zeeland (mortar) also contributed to this project.

The Admiralty in Vlissingen is being built by Bouwgroep Peters of Middelburg, with whom various companies of De Hoop Terneuzen have cooperated finely, well and constructively for years. From the 'Zeeland' cooperation also came the contact with Schokindustrie. "We made a quotation for the prefabricated foundation beams, the piles and the piling for De Admiraliteit, in which our sister company and pile manufacturer Pit Beton was also closely involved," says Charlotte van Hellenberg Hubar - De Vreede, Commercial Technical Advisor at Schokindustrie. "For Bouwgroep Peters, this was the first project in which precast foundation beams were used. However, the benefits it experienced in doing so speak for themselves."

High construction speed, good working conditions

Commissioned by Bouwgroep Peters, Schokindustrie produced and assembled over 750 meters of precast foundation beams for De Admiraliteit. Both for the single-family houses and apartments, with the longest beam being approximately 10 meters. "Big advantage of precast foundation beams is the high construction speed," says Van Hellenberg Hubar - De Vreede. "Also, precast foundation beams benefit working conditions. Especially in our wet climate, it is nice to get out of the construction pit as quickly as possible. The production of precast foundation beams at our production site is not weather-dependent. Moreover, waste at the construction site is minimal."

Constant conditions

At Shock Industry, precast foundation beams are always produced under constant working and climatic conditions, she emphasizes. "To ensure that all foundation beams are perfectly aligned, the positions of the recesses and provisions must be communicated to us in good time. Then our engineers review the structural advice and drawings, suggesting optimizations if necessary. For example, regarding the pile positions and the dimensions of the beams. All concrete elements are produced and delivered under KOMO and CSC certification."

Assembled in 2 days

The precast foundation beams for De Admiraliteit were transported just-in-time and by truck to Vlissingen. "Here our partner Vroom Betonbouw assembled all the beams in just 2 days on the 238 piles, which were manufactured and driven by Pit Beton," explains Van Hellenberg Hubar - De Vreede. "The 500 millimeter high precast foundation beams were installed just below ground level, in the remediated soil layer of the Scheldt site. Combined with the precast elevator pit from Sterk Beton, the foundation of De Admiraliteit has become a real family project."

Ground and floor floors

Apart from the foundations, the companies of De Hoop Terneuzen also actively contributed to the constructions and facade finishing of De Admiraliteit. One of these companies is De Hoop Pekso, which is one of the regular flooring suppliers of Bouwgroep Peters in the south of the Netherlands. "A big advantage of our company is that we can advise, engineer, produce and deliver the complete package of ground floor and first floor floors," says Xander Eversdijk, Rayon Manager at De Hoop Pekso region South Netherlands. "So too for De Admiraliteit. For the 27 apartments, we produced and delivered hollow-core slabs at the ground floor level and wide slabs at the first floor level, while the single-family dwellings were constructed with rib-cassette ground floors and hollow-core slabs at the first floor level. In total, we manufactured and supplied 1,100 m2 of ribcassette floors, 660 m2 of hollow-core slabs and 2,610 m2 of wide-plank floors." The rib cassette floors, hollow core slabs and wide slab floors were prefabricated by De Hoop Pekso in Terneuzen and transported just-in-time to the construction site in Vlissingen.

Important share

All companies within De Hoop Terneuzen have good contact and short lines of communication, Eversdijk emphasizes. "Between us we maintain good contact about the projects we are doing, which also benefits our client. After all, things can be coordinated even better in order to arrive at the best and most efficient solution. In cooperation with Pit Beton, Schokindustrie, Sterk Beton, VTO, Bouwcenter Logus-De Hoop and MegaMix Zeeland, we provided almost all the building materials on this project. In doing so, De Hoop Terneuzen has an important share in this beautiful work!"
