The properties of plexiglass

A naturally transparent thermoplastic. So basically glass but made of plastic. Lighter and cheaper. The scientific name of Plexiglas is Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) and is a polymer of methyl methacrylate. This transparent thermoplastic plastic is perhaps better known by the trade names Perspex, Plexiglas, Altuglas and Oroglas, but also simply as acrylate.

You can process plexiglass in several ways. Sawing, engraving, drilling, milling and cutting. The material is impact resistant. Safe in other words. Thirty times stronger than glass and half the weight. UV-resistant and weatherproof. You can use it perfectly outdoors for all kinds of jobs. Garden sheds, greenhouses and the windows for your boat. But also think of applications of plexiglass such as front windows, display cases, advertising and decorative materials, roof domes, sound screens and the largest aquarium in the world!

Sound

Plexiglas sheets have high sound insulation. Not surprisingly, Plexiglas is used on many café terraces. Plexiglas is also increasingly used in noise barriers instead of concrete or glass. Plexiglas is more resistant to weather influences and are much lower maintenance than glass.

Sun

Because the sheets of plexiglass are UV-resistant, the sheets do not discolor from sunlight. Use plexiglass as a translucent material and turn it into a wall near the open staircase. Or use the sheets as windows in your new conservatory. Plexiglas sheets, blocks or tubes, it's all possible. So you can also use plexiglass for your new project as a sculptor. The material can be used in many ways. You can use it as a partition in your garden to enjoy the sunshine very early. Or to protect that beautiful drawing on the wall. Plexiglas glazing is for indoors and outdoors, as balcony panels, windshields and boat windows it is used. But you can also think in very small ways. Coasters, glass for in picture frames, the windshield of a tractor or a dust cover for your sewing machine. As mentioned, you can also easily mill and engrave the material so you can also make your ultimate nameplate out of it! I found the cutest and hippest application at the desk of a large architectural firm, fantastic!
