Platform on new construction, renovation, restoration and transformation
In the process, they offer many extras such as bleachers, child care and catering. "We have dealt with this so many times, our client only has to say ABC. We complete the alphabet to Z. We know all the factors involved in building and operating sports centers."
Speaking is Jack Hazen, commercial director of Pellikaan. In the family business that was founded just after the Second World War, the third generation is now at the helm. During this period, Pellikaan has grown into a company with two disciplines. The medium-sized construction company operates in the Netherlands, Belgium, England and Germany. The operator of sports centers - such as health clubs with facilities for racquet, fitness, child care, swimming pools and wellness - operates in the Netherlands.
In the construction and operation of sports facilities, Pellikaan reaps the benefits of being a family business on a daily basis. "Within a family business, quality and aftercare occupy an important place," Hazen says. "Because of the strong bond, everyone walks that extra mile." But that is certainly not the only success factor. "Because the construction company operates in four countries, a continuous cross-pollination takes place here. Construction methods, product knowledge and new energy sources are constantly being exchanged. For example, we built the first full electric sports hall six years ago. We have not known heavy gas pipes for a long time."
And then there is the fact that Pellikaan takes on both the construction and operation of the centers. "If something in the sports facility is not right - the management requires too many employees, the energy bill is too high or the number of visitors is too low - we feel it in our own pockets. That direct connection has given us a lot of operating knowledge. We have solved all the problems before; our customers benefit from that."
In addition to sports centers, Pellikaan constructs schools, hotels, daycare centers, offices, apartments and industrial buildings. These projects range from construction team work to far-reaching PPP projects in which Design, Build, Finance, Maintain and Operate (DBFMO) are fully integrated. "With this, we have left behind the phase of 'specifier'. We want to share our knowledge and know-how. The earlier we are involved in a project, the more we can do for our clients."
