Traditionally, many buildings are maintained periodically. Major maintenance takes place every few years, after which nothing is done to the facade for some time, except window washing. The result: existing defects can go unnoticed for a relatively long time, the appearance of the facade fluctuates and restoring it to the desired condition costs an unnecessary amount of money. Surely it should be possible to do this differently?

Yes indeed, it can be done differently. Fortron, the largest glass and facade maintenance company in the Netherlands, has created a unique service: Total Facade Management. In other words: a combination of technical and aesthetic facade maintenance that reduces costs, extends the lifespan and maintains the appearance of a facade. A facade inspection, in which the condition of individual facade elements is mapped, takes place much less frequently. Then our technical staff goes to work to repair these defects at an early stage, keeping costs relatively low."

According to Essers, Fortron is also increasingly involved as early as the design stage of a building. "By already taking periodic maintenance into account in the design, costs are reduced and potential critical situations are eliminated in advance." Demonstrable correct maintenance, by the way, is also necessary to claim warranty benefits. "What maintenance is necessary is different for each facade element and for each supplier. This is precisely why Total Facade Management is always customized. In consultation with the client, we determine the maintenance level appropriate to the function of the building, the warranty provisions and the desired appearance. By performing regular minor maintenance instead of periodic major maintenance - in a combination of technology and aesthetics - we realize an average savings on maintenance costs of up to 20% over a period of 10 years."
