Balconies from One MilkyWay are secured with only two anchors

The Isokorf® IQlick and M type K anchoring solutions are used in project One MilkyWay in the Binckhorst in The Hague. On the corner of Melkwegstraat and Saturnusstraat, a special complex is rising, consisting of a high residential tower of about 70 meters, a lower section with timber construction (CLT) and a "green" parking garage with a beautiful roof garden. For the realization of One MilkyWay, contractor Waal Bouw opted for a tunnel construction system, explains Geert Pannekoek of Schöck Nederland b.v. "The components of our Isokorf® elements are pushed into the hole pattern of the tunnel formwork during tunneling, after which the floors are poured with concrete. Once the structural shell is complete, the façade elements are installed from bottom to top. Then, in reverse construction order, the precast balconies are suspended from the facades, into which the other part of our anchors is already cast. The prefab balconies are produced and supplied by Vebo Beton B.V. There are a number of trestles on the construction site, with which the balconies are hung. When the time comes, the underside finishes, balustrades and other finishes are applied first. Thanks in part to our Isokorf® anchors, the balconies can then be attached to the building easily, quickly and reliably."

Isokorf® M type K

A total of two Isokorf® anchors are required per balcony, Pannekoek says. "The balconies on the fourth through seventeenth floors are approximately 2.5 meters wide and 2.10 meters cantilevered and are fastened with our Isokorf® IQlick system. Above them will be balconies as much as 5 meters wide and 2.40 meters cantilevered. Thanks to our very latest Isokorf® M type K system, these balconies can also be fixed with just two anchors. Isokorf® M type K guarantees simplified installation in prefabricated balconies and a very high load-bearing capacity. What is also unique is that the attachment of the balconies takes place behind the HSB elements, so that the facade can first be waterproofed without prefabricated balconies being in the way."

Efficient and fast anchoring

Building on a postage stamp site is very common in the year 2024 and requires tight planning from all stakeholders, Pannekoek knows. "To support contractors in this, we have developed various anchoring systems for retrofitting balconies. With our anchoring techniques, balcony elements can be assembled in many cases in minutes and from the crane. Long-term underpinning is not necessary, allowing contractors to build significantly more flexibly, efficiently and quickly and keeping the construction train well underway."
