Platform on new construction, renovation, restoration and transformation
Van den Heuvel Engelen Infra B.V. offers a comprehensive approach to above-ground and underground infrastructure projects. “With broad expertise in earthmoving, demolition, agricultural engineering, non-residential construction, sewer work, and energy networks, we offer a comprehensive approach: from engineering to completion, from distribution centers to sports facilities, and from infrastructure to landscaping,” says Dirk van den Heuvel, who, together with his brothers René and Ton, forms the management team. “Our team of specialists guarantees high quality and works with the latest techniques. Moreover, clients are assured of the personal approach, prompt communication, and short lines of communication characteristic of a family-owned business.”
With three brothers from a family of six boys, Van den Heuvel Engelen is a family business through and through. “We grew up in the countryside and aren’t afraid to roll up our sleeves and get our hands dirty,” explains Dirk van den Heuvel. “In other words: we know how to get things done! That’s also what our company stands for: we keep going until the job is done.”
Van den Heuvel Engelen’s success story began in 2002 with the rental of cranes, shovels, and other construction and earthmoving equipment. “We also regularly carried out paving work,” says Van den Heuvel. “That expertise has since grown into a full-fledged contracting firm specializing in earthmoving, demolition, agricultural engineering, non-residential construction, sewer work, and energy networks. Our team consists of 28 experienced specialists, supported by a flexible pool of about ten trusted faces. In addition, we can hire extra machinery and operators on a project-by-project basis. On average, we work with about fifty people every day on the most exciting projects.”
These projects include, for example, several distribution centers, for which Van den Heuvel Engelen provides the complete infrastructure package—from earthwork, sewer systems, and paving to landscaping. “If desired, we can also handle the demolition of existing structures on the site,” says Van den Heuvel. “The distribution centers are typically built as part of a construction team, in which we share our expertise from a very early stage.”
On behalf of our water boards, Van den Heuvel Engelen regularly carries out land improvement projects, such as the construction of ponds and natural shorelines. “What further sets us apart is the installation of underground infrastructure, such as thermal energy storage pipes and fire suppression lines,” says Van den Heuvel. “We also install cables and pipelines for wind farms and high-voltage substations, working on behalf of well-known infrastructure contractors.” In addition, Van den Heuvel Engelen is increasingly taking on projects commissioned by real estate developers.
One project Van den Heuvel is particularly proud of is the installation of 9,811 meters of fire main at Moerdijk, including 92 above-ground fire hydrants. “For this project, we were able to handle the entire scope of work, including excavation, welding, and the installation of the fire hydrant clusters from which the fire department will be able to draw water,” he explains. “We connected the steel components using bolts, flanges, and seals, working with pipes of considerable diameter. In total, we installed 8,302 meters of fire main in open trenches and 1,509 meters via directional drilling. This involved using 3,275 meters of PE560 and 6,536 meters of PE200 pipe material.” The fire suppression pipes were successfully pressure-tested at 16 bar. “As part of an additional contract, we also installed 5,730 meters of casing pipe, including signal cables for the position indicators of the valves, as well as 4,750 meters of drinking water pipe.”
Van den Heuvel Engelen has also prepared an approximately 46-hectare industrial park in Tiel for development. “We built a 9-hectare warehouse here, after which we laid no fewer than 55,000 square meters of paved surfaces,” said Van den Heuvel. “Another outstanding project is the 24-hectare Hooibroeken Solar Park in Heusden, which accommodates no fewer than 55,000 solar panels and for which we carried out land development work. For example, we prepared the site for construction and cleared the existing vegetation using a flail mower and a rotary tiller. We then plowed the entire plot and seeded it with a pasture mix. We also dredged and widened the ditches, creating nature-friendly banks; excavated frog pools; installed several weirs, culverts, and drainage systems; and prepared the edges of the solar park for planting. In addition, we constructed an earthen embankment to screen the solar panels from view. As part of an additional contract, we carried out approximately 3,400 m1 of cabling work, the earthwork for three feed-in stations, and the installation of 4,855 m2 of semi-paved surfaces, beautifully combining modern technology with a green finish.”
