Ironclad partner in construction work

If you say Van Pommeren, you say steel. The company from Veenendaal is widely known as a specialist in steel stairs, balustrades and fencing. At the same time Van Pommeren is the partner of choice for steel constructions. Contractors, construction companies and architects know exactly where to find Van Pommeren when their project involves construction.

"Our steel structures form the basis for countless buildings, machines and installations," says director Leendert van Pommeren. "The nature, size and complexity of those structures varies. Sometimes it is about supports for the renovation of a house, other times a complete steel roof construction or a temporary support construction. Both in new construction and in existing construction."

From engineering to assembly

Van Pommeren takes care of the realization of steel structures from A to Z. That starts with the engineering. Van Pommeren: "Structural engineering is tailor-made and precision work. Steel constructions must fit to the millimeter. They also have to be safe and, when left in sight, aesthetic. Our own engineers have an eye for this. They measure, draw and calculate until the construction is perfect. It is then up to our production department to make the construction exactly as it is. Our craftsmen do this in the workshop and our own mechanics assemble the structures."

Constructive collaboration

"The lines between our departments are short," Van Pommeren continues. "Design, production and assembly are directly coordinated. This benefits the quality and delivery reliability of the constructions. With this in mind, I am an advocate of chain cooperation on projects. Especially complex construction projects benefit when parties take on the work as a single team, with joint responsibility for the end result. Openness, trust and knowledge sharing are crucial in this. I therefore think it is a great development that we are increasingly involved in projects as a permanent partner and can contribute our expertise at an early stage. Nice examples of this are the transformation of the old main post office on the Neude in Utrecht and the realization of a basement under ten monumental buildings on the Koningsplein in Amsterdam."

Seven hundred tons of steel

In the renovation of Post Neude, Van Pommeren worked closely with regular partner Burgland Bouw. Van Pommeren supplied and assembled 700 tons of steel to transform the monumental building into a multifunctional public building with many staircases, railings and glass balustrades. "For the new construction part of this transformation, we brought in about 350 tons of steel. The conversion of the existing part required the same amount of steel. We used most of this for temporary and permanent structures to support floors and walls in which large openings are made. For example, because escalators had to pass through them."

Thirty stamping towers

For the realization of the basement on Koningsplein, Van Pommeren, also in cooperation with Burgland Bouw, placed about 110 tons of auxiliary steel. "Quite a challenge," says Van Pommeren. "To make that new basement, among other things, the existing basement and first floor had to be taken out. The gap created between the basement and the second floor was filled with a temporary support structure. We delivered and assembled this structure. In total, we placed thirty strut towers. We also delivered and assembled the final steel, stairs and fencing."

Men and women of steel

With challenging renovations such as Post Neude and Koningsplein, as well as iconic building projects such as EMA, HAUT and Amsterdome, Van Pommeren shows itself to be a rock-solid partner in construction work, stairs and fencing. "Our people are our strength in this," Van Pommeren emphasizes. "I am incredibly proud of our team. From our committed colleagues in the office to our professionals in production and assembly. Piece by piece men and women of steel who go to extremes. Thanks to them, we make a constructive contribution to every conceivable structure. From brand new to monumental."
