Sustainability, speed and appearance come together in Nova residential tower

Industrial estate De Binckhorst in The Hague is being transformed from an office jungle into a modern, urban and water-rich area where you can live, work and stay to your heart's content. At Maanplein 110, beautifully situated at the head of the marina, the finishing touches are being put on residential tower Nova. The 70-meter high residential tower provides space for 183 (rental) apartments, 139 covered parking spaces and a lively commercial plinth and is being built with high-quality and sustainable materials. For example, the facade consists of insulated sandwich elements in prefabricated concrete, in which Facédo's aluminum window frames have already been preinstalled. In total Facédo supplied approximately 3,900 m2 window frames and curtain walls in anodized aluminum, which combine a luxurious appearance, long life and minimal maintenance.

High construction speed

Commissioned by Pleijsier Bouw, Facédo provided the supply, assembly and airtight finish of the aluminum window frames on all residential floors and the curtain walls in the commercial plinth. "A large part of the window frames were delivered to producer of precast concrete façade elements Hibex," says Bram Leijser, project manager at Facédo. "On the bag field of the precast concrete plant in Groningen, we carefully built our window frames into the sandwich façade elements between February and May. Next, the elements were transported to the construction site just-in-time and including profiled white concrete, stone strips and Facédo water layers. Around 37 façade elements were assembled per floor, at a rate of just seven days per floor."

Special color finish

Underlying the aluminum frames in Nova residential tower is the Kawneer RT72 window and door system, with an average Uwindow of ≤1.0 W/m2K, says Leijser. "All residential floors are triple-glazed with a Uwindow of ≤0.6 W/m2K. Because the glass is highly solar reflective, heating of the homes in summer is prevented." The Kawneer AA 100 system was chosen for the curtain walls, he says. "What is special about the curtain walls is particularly the color. Whereas the window frames received the standard anodization color dark bronze, the special AluRed04 was chosen for the curtain walls. This gives the commercial plinth even more cachet." In October, Facédo assembled the final curtain walls. At the moment, the finishing touches are being made, after which Nova will be delivered in the second quarter of 2024.

5 projects within a radius of 500 meters

Residential tower Nova is the fifth project within a radius of 500 meters in which Facédo aluminum window frames and curtain walls have been or will be used. "In the past we also realized the residential towers Binck Kade, SDU-De Binck and Binck Plaats," says Leijser. "In addition, we are currently involved in the new construction of Binck City Park, a stone's throw from the Maanplein." With this, Facédo is leaving a clear mark on the extraordinary new city district.
