Ymere and ERA Contour enrich Amsterdam East with 149 compact social housing units

Housing corporation Ymere and ERA Contour sign realization agreement to launch De Eenhoorn residential project

Housing corporation Ymere and TBI company ERA Contour recently signed the realization agreement for the De Eenhoorn housing project on Rudolf Dieselstraat in Amsterdam East. The current 124 ground floor apartments are to make way for more than 300 apartments inspired by apartments in Helsinki, Finland. Development builder ERA Contour is responsible for the construction of the homes and is supervising the demolition of the current rental apartments. Korth-Thielens Architects is responsible for the design.

"We are building over 300 new affordable social housing units on this site. Many homes are particularly suitable for starters and smaller households due to their compact layout," Viviane Regout, a member of Ymere's board of directors, is able to tell us. According to her, there is a great need for this type of affordable rental housing in Amsterdam. "We are therefore pleased that we can do something in this beautiful, centrally located spot in Amsterdam for everyone looking for affordable rental housing."

"We are thrilled to work with Ymere to enrich this spot in Amsterdam East with these apartments. It will give the neighborhood a new look. Moreover, the layout of the apartments, the shared lobby and communal courtyard gardens will create more liveliness among the future residents," said Jeroen Heijdra, statutory director at ERA Contour.

Comfortable living in a small design
A modern gray-tinted facade, a clever residential layout, lots of large windows and high ceilings ensure that affordable living in De Eenhoorn is comfortable, light and spacious. Future residents will soon be able to experience it for themselves. In the Rudolf Dieselstraat in Amsterdam East, the 1e phase realized 149 compact apartments that vary in area. There are apartments available from 32 to over 80 square meters. By choosing compact apartments, more house seekers can be made happy with the key to their new home.

Plenty of dynamism in an urban oasis
The future residents of The Unicorn will have all amenities within easy reach. The apartment complex is easily accessible by public transportation. This ensures plenty of dynamism in the neighborhood, the streets and the buildings. The varied and contemporary buildings combined with a quiet car-free environment and green areas, make you live here in an urban oasis. The different housing types fulfill multiple housing needs: from compact homes for starters to some larger apartments for families.

More social contact through shared facilities
Common areas and shared amenities are a good complement to compact homes in the De Eenhoorn apartment complex. These spaces where neighbors come together contribute to greater safety and connectedness and ensure that a place to live has the same conveniences as a larger home. By sharing common areas and some amenities, you get to know your neighbors better. A bond between residents also develops more easily. The buildings are gasless and have solar panels.

Construction work to start in spring 2019
ERA Contour is expected to start piling work for the construction of the apartments in spring 2019. More information about the project can be found at
