FACADES PLAY CENTRAL ROLE IN TRANSFORMATION
On Kollenbergweg in Amsterdam-Zuidoost, work is underway on the phased redevelopment of Van Mossel's Volvo branch. The location, directly visible from the A2 motorway, plays an important role in the urban and infrastructural context of the area. The renovation aims to bring the premises into line with the latest Volvo brand identity in all departments, while fully maintaining day-to-day operations.
The Volvo facility forms a striking part of the urban fabric along one of the region's main traffic arteries. The redevelopment therefore requires a careful balance between appearance, functionality and continuity. Because showroom and workshop will remain in use during the work, a phased implementation was chosen. This approach minimizes inconvenience and makes it possible to fit the renovation into the existing use of the building.
Facade builder JM van Delft & zn from Drunen was commissioned by Van Mossel to supply and install the aluminum curtain walls and window frames. The facades play a central role in the transformation of the building and contribute to a transparent and contemporary appearance that fits the current requirements in terms of architecture and sustainability.
The first phase of the project is now glass sealed. The installed curtain walls already provide a clear spatial and visual improvement of the showroom. In this phase, the assembly of screw and cover frames and the installation of some automatic sliding doors still follow. The completion of phase 1 is scheduled for the beginning of the new year.
The showroom is being renovated in phases with aluminum curtain walls, which will provide more daylight and openness. And various works have also been carried out in the workshop. For example, several more window frames were installed here before the end of the year, improving the technical condition and ease of use of the building.
About 80 percent of the work was completed by the end of 2025. The remaining work will follow in the new year, with the start of phase 2 around the end of January. This will complete the redevelopment of the Volvo branch on the A2 motorway.
