Masonry reinforcement on a roll is lighter and more efficient

Murfor® Compact is the new standard in masonry reinforcement. This roll-form joint reinforcement can do everything that the traditional rigid, long-span Murfor® steel element can do. Murfor® Compact also combines greater length with lower weight and can be cut to size even more quickly and efficiently.

Murfor® is a product of the Belgian company Bekaert. The Dutch distributor is De Hoop Pekso in Terneuzen. De Hoop Pekso supplies Murfor® through building materials retailers to masons, contractors, self-employed professionals, and other construction professionals. Jean-Pierre Nolet, team leader and buyer of reinforcing steel at De Hoop Pekso, is enthusiastic about Murfor® Compact and its creators. “Masonry reinforcement has been in use for 50 years. It’s impressive that it can now be produced on a roll, making the product extremely easy to work with without it curling back annoyingly.”

By now, many masons and contractors have discovered the benefits of Murfor® Compact continuous-joint reinforcement. As far as Nolet is concerned, everyone should switch to it, because
Murfor® Compact can do practically everything that the traditional unit can. “So there’s really no reason to choose the traditional unit anymore.”

Transport

“The traditional element is 3.05 meters long. It is delivered in bundles of 25 pieces, weighing approximately 20 kilograms in total. A 30-meter roll of Murfor® Compact weighs only 6 kilograms and takes up much less space during transport. This applies to transport from us to the building materials supplier, as well as to the contractor or mason who takes it to the construction site.” The mason then takes only one compact, lightweight roll up onto the scaffolding.

Cutting it to size is also very easy. “You can do that with wire cutters, whereas the 4-mm-thick traditional element requires a grinder.” And a 30-meter roll is also more efficient to use. “For windows wider than 3 meters, the reinforcement can be installed in a single piece, whereas with traditional Murfor® you have to work with an overlap.” The roll is also more efficient for smaller spans because it eliminates cutting waste. “The price per meter of Murfor®
”Compact is more cost-effective. On top of that, the product offers advantages thanks to its lighter, faster, and more efficient processing. Compact is therefore very competitive and the best choice."

Grades and widths

Murfor® Compact is available in various grades and widths. Murfor® Compact E is intended for exterior use (exterior wall masonry). It is blue in color, which evokes a sense of cold. Murfor® Compact I is designed for interior use (interior masonry walls) and is red in color, symbolizing warmth. Murfor® Compact A is specifically designed for reinforcing aerated concrete blocks and is white in color. Murfor®
Compact E is made of stainless steel wires; Murfor® Compact I is made of galvanized steel wires. The structural steel wires are held together by a reinforced fiberglass strand. This construction ensures very high tensile strength.

Masonry reinforcement on a roll is available in various widths. Murfor® Compact E is available in 35 mm and 70 mm widths. The 70 mm width is designed for 100 mm-wide masonry and is the most commonly used. The reinforcement then has a 15 mm cover on both sides. The 35 mm-wide reinforcement is used with narrow bricks. For non-standard masonry bonds, two reinforcement strips can also be laid side by side with a gap between them. De Hoop Pekso provides clear tables to help determine the correct specifications. Murfor® Compact I is available in widths of 50 and 100 mm; Murfor® Compact A for aerated concrete is available in widths of 40 and 80 mm. All rolls have a wire diameter of 1.7 mm and are suitable for thin joints.

Certified building product

Murfor® Compact is a certified construction product in accordance with Eurocode 6, KOMO, DoP, and ETA, and is therefore safe to use in every respect. Application recommendations can be found on the De Hoop Pekso website.
