Public showers within swimming pools, gyms, campsites and office buildings often pose a risk of legionella contamination. With proper maintenance, this risk is reduced, but with Delabie's new Sporting 2 Securitherm shower panel, the risk of contamination is reduced even further. Delabie is the European market leader in sanitary applications within utility buildings. They developed this unique shower panel for safety reasons and to save water and energy.
In stagnant water with a temperature between 25 and 45°C, legionella can develop. If a shower is not used for some time, the bacteria can develop quickly. Because cold and hot water are mixed directly in the shower head of the Sporting 2 Securitherm, this is not an issue with this panel. "The fact that this is an electronic panel with a thermostatic shower head is unique," says Sepp van Jaarsveld, Technical-Commercial Advisor at Delabie. "No mixed water stagnates in the pipes, which would be the perfect circumstance for bacterial growth." As an added prevention, the electronic faucets include periodic flushing. This involves running them for one minute each time 24 hours after the last use.
The fact that hot water mixed with cold water comes directly out of the shower head could pose a danger of scalding, should the cold water drop out. But Delabie has thought of this too. The shower panel is equipped with anti-combustion protection. "If the cold water supply is shut off, then the hot water is automatically shut off, and vice versa, the cold water is shut off if the hot water is lost," Van Jaarsveld explains.
The design of the Sporting 2 Securitherm shower panel is tasteful and at the same time vandal-proof. There are no corners or handles by which the panel can be pulled away from the wall or from which someone can hang. Anodized aluminum and satin chrome ensure that no oxidation occurs. Maintenance is also very limited, says Van Jaarsveld. "With one wipe of a cloth it is clean. Occasionally a battery needs to be replaced, but otherwise no maintenance is required. Thanks to the Hostaform® limescale-resistant shower head, no limescale build-up occurs either."
You activate the Sporting 2 Securitherm with a hand movement. A sensor ensures that the shower rinses for one minute, after which it automatically stops again. So it is also suitable for the disabled. Moreover, the panel saves energy and water, Van Jaarsveld knows. "It delivers 6 liters per minute. That means you use less water and therefore need to heat less. The comfort is maintained in the process."
What Van Jaarsveld often hears back from installers is that the panel is easier to connect because there is no need to take into account the location of the cold and hot water pipes. "You have fewer fittings in the piping. You slide the shower head on and you're done. Plus, it comes with a 10-year warranty."
