A double anniversary: one hundred years of painting in Ede

Like the ENKA factory, Achterberg Schilders is also celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. These special anniversaries come together in the renovation of the gatehouse of the Edese factory. Commercial director Art Achterberg talks about Achterberg Schilders' work in this unique project.

Of course, the renovation of the Gatehouse is not complete without painting, wallpapering and glass work. Fortunately, there is Achterberg Schilders. "For almost thirty years we have been a regular partner of construction company Kreeft," Achterberg says. "We love working on monumental buildings and are ERM-certified. So renovating such an imposing building is no stranger to us. That doesn't take away from the fact that this is an incredibly fun and special project."

Eyecatchers

Achterberg Schilders is working on the walls of the Poort building. Her expertise is well displayed in one of the apartments, where one is greeted by ENKA's rich history. "We installed a beautiful photo wallpaper here," Achterberg says. "The pictures take you back in time. When you walk in, you immediately see what used to happen at this location."

The walls of the Gatehouse will be well taken care of. All the glass work, wallpapering and painting will be done by Achterberg Schilders. As you enter the barracks grounds, the bright red window frames of the Gatehouse draw your attention. These eye-catchers also come from the brush of Achterberg Schilders.

A double anniversary

The company was founded in 1923 by Johan Achterberg in Veenendaal, a town a stone's throw from Ede. Now, a hundred years later, Coen Blees, Johan Jansen and Art Achterberg are pulling the cart. "Today we have three locations in Ede, Amersfoort and Diemen, employing a total of about a hundred people," Achterberg says. "Our company has a rich history of which we are proud."

"Ede is not a city full of old, monumental buildings," he says. "The ENKA site is therefore really a unique place. All the inhabitants know it and many tourists come to the city for it. As a company from Ede, it is very nice to participate in this renovation. We are the same age, so Achterberg Schilders has experienced the important effect of the ENKA factory on Ede up close. Nice to contribute our bit to this project now.
