Accuracy and innovation: Correct sizing for Oranjewoud

Accuracy and innovation: Proper sizing for Oranjewoud

Oranjewoud was a fairly large project for BDM, even though it does about 800 projects a year. Here it used total stations, which measure distances and angles to millimeter accuracy. Other measurement capabilities within the company include drones, 3D laser scanning and high-precision measurements through laser tracking. Rein Brandsma explains, "We read the architect's, structural engineer's and installer's drawings into one model and were able to measure all parts from there. This involved several floors, so we had to make sure that the dimensions had the same zero point on each floor. Not only on the drawing, but also on site, the walls and all piping must be straight above each other, in one line. We mark these points very precisely on site."

An important characteristic of BDM is that the company is innovative. The employees work with the very latest equipment and techniques. They are also flexible and can adapt quickly. This also came in handy at Oranjewoud, says Bastiaan Witteveen, business manager at BDM. "We always had to switch between the different buildings because we cannot measure everything from one position. We often work for Van Wijnen and also think along about how the process can be more efficient, without losing quality."

BDM was founded by Rein Brandsma in 2007. The company now has 28 employees and is building new premises. This should be inaugurated in June 2021.
