CityPromenade Nieuwegein: Tunnel formwork as the foundation of success

Nieuwegein is building hard for the future with project CityPromenade. For Klink Bekistingen, this is a unique opportunity to apply its expertise in tunnel formwork and casting construction protection on an impressive scale. "In execution, this is one of the largest projects ever for us," says Mervyn Beekman, business manager at Klink Formwork. "The challenge is in the optimal deployment in terms of tunnels combined with the pouring sequence - that was logistically quite a puzzle!"

Klink Formwork provided the tunnel formwork, the scaffolding and all the materials needed for the structural work. Thanks to extensive preparation and close consultation with the parties involved, the process went smoothly. "From the beginning, we were closely involved in the project," Beekman explains. Colleague Vincent Overgoor played an important role in the operational process. He maintained the usual contact with specialist subcontractor Stado Betonbouw and provided the technical drawings. "Overgoor streamlined the project in the background. And it was a great success from start to finish," Beekman says proudly.

Complex shell construction, streamlined collaboration

The CityPromenade project is a perfect illustration of how important good cooperation is. Klink Formworks worked closely with Stado Betonbouw and contractor Johan Kuiper of Koopmans Bouwgroep to complete the shell construction on time and on schedule. "We not only supply the materials, but also make sure everything runs smoothly," Beekman said. "It was our job to make sure the materials were delivered on time and that construction went on according to schedule. During construction, new insights sometimes emerged, so we had to make adjustments. That all went smoothly."

Overcoming challenges

Limited site space and the diversity of shapes of the towers created challenges. "Between the second and third towers, there was hardly any space. Therefore, we had to be creative. Our tunnel formwork has a modular structure, which makes it easy to convert the formwork on site to other dimensions." Beekman looks back on the project with satisfaction, "This was a great project for us. Thanks to the strong cooperation with Stado Betonbouw and Koopmans, we put down something impressive."
