Co-maker produces wooden facade elements

with built-in plastic frames and wooden frames For new Hague residential area

For the design, production and delivery of the wooden façade elements with pre-installed plastic window frames and wooden adjustment frames for the 464 apartments in the new residential area Schoone Ley in The Hague, Klunder Architects and Heijmans called on the knowledge and experience of Vianen Kozijnen.

"We actually work exclusively as co-makers and have already done several projects with Heijmans in this way. We had also worked with the architect in the past. We were assigned this project on the basis of a presentation, taking into account design idea, Plan of Action, technology and price," says account manager Hans Bakker. "We were involved in the project at an early stage and were thus able to think along with the other construction partners. Our modular details were included in the architectural BIM model. This eliminated the risk of errors as much as possible in the subsequent construction process, which resulted in significant time savings during the drawing checks."

Between spring 2019 and March 2020, Vianen produced and delivered approximately 870 wooden façade elements, good for 13,000 m², with some 1,400 plastic frames that were installed in advance and under optimally conditioned conditions at Vianen in Montfoort. In addition, this project included the delivery of some 1,000 wooden set frames, equivalent to 5,200 m². "This is one of the most extensive orders we have carried out to date. After all, it involves facade elements and frames for seven different building blocks, which also had to be produced and delivered at a tight pace," Bakker indicates. "In consultation with the quality people at Heijmans, we had the wooden façade elements with plastic frames from Transcarbo tested at an early stage in an independent laboratory (SHR) and were thus the only supplier to obtain a supplementary KOMO certificate, allowing us to deliver elements at great heights without problems with the extreme water and wind loads. Thanks to the excellent performance in terms of water and wind tightness and wind pressure, our systems are therefore extremely suitable for high-rise projects, such as several of which are once again in progress today."
