Not a big one, but a specific project. That's how Gerard Koobs describes Kwakkel BV's work at the old DYNTES Techpark. Koobs is manager of Kwakkel BV, which specializes in renovation demolition, drilling and sawing, milling, chemical anchoring, headhunting and total demolition. This project did not involve demolishing the building, but cutting recesses in the walls and floors. This was all to come up with a new layout for the existing building and for the hotel.
The former tech park is located in the Waterloopbos in Marknesse. This is where hydrological research was done in the past. A beautiful setting, where people can enjoy all the natural beauty and a perfect location for a hotel, Koobs agrees. "Construction company Verwer invited us to collaborate on the modifications of the building to make it suitable for a hotel. We made recesses in the walls and floors, and soon we will be remediating various asbestos sources."
You cannot simply remove a load-bearing concrete wall. It must be done in the proper order and proper propping and stamping. Wall and floor cutting is done with a water-cooled diamond saw. Tight lines allow the wall and floor sections to be taken out as blocks. It is a low-vibration and low-dust way of working. "This way of working with this tool requires craftsmanship," says Koobs. "We started by drilling holes so we don't have to cut oversize. You interrupt the cut. In advance, we check roughly how heavy a block weighs. It is taken out with hoists and trestles and removed."
Kwakkel BV regularly works for construction company Verwer, it is a regular client. Because the employees now know Kwakkel BV's expertise well, they are regularly deployed and there is a pleasant cooperation.
