Efficient construction with wood frame elements

Zwaluwe Prefab is a joinery specializing in wall-filling elements, dormers and parapet panels. For Park070 in Voorburg, the company provided the design and production of facade-filling elements (timber frame elements) made of sustainable wood.

"Together with main contractor Van Wijnen, we ensured that the prefabricated wood frame elements including window frames and stone strips could be installed on site," says Ari Stevens, Zwaluwe Prefab's business manager. "We produced the wood frame elements ourselves and the window frames and facade system were assembled by third parties at our site."

In total, Zwaluwe Prefab supplied about 750 facade-filling elements with a gross facade area of 9,000 m2. The company worked for a year and a half to execute and produce the elements, four of which were produced per day. Stevens: "The shell construction is concrete, we tailor our production and deliveries to that so the contractor can make the homes wind and watertight as quickly as possible."

Building more efficiently

Zwaluwe Prefab wants to contribute to a more efficient construction chain by reducing lead time. This project is a great example of that. Stevens: "If you think carefully beforehand, you can work much more efficiently and thus reduce the construction time. With this way of working, a construction is quickly wind and watertight, no scaffolding is needed and there are fewer people on the building site. In addition, we ensure that professionals remain employable and healthy for longer. After all, at our location they work in less stressful conditions than on the construction site."
