The apartment building owes its striking character to the gold-colored aluminum window frames. The development and manufacture of these window frames, 644 in total, is in the hands of HEPRO plastic and aluminum window frames.
HEPRO's gold-colored aluminum window frames are a modern reference to the yellow window frames of the authentic homes in the neighboring Oosterpark neighborhood, at the rear of the building. VDP Architects involved HEPRO early on in the project to arrive at the right color scheme.
"Initially, the plan was to fit only the commercial areas on the first floor with aluminum window frames," says HEPRO technical director Mark Vreugdenhil. "The remaining window frames were to be in plastic. Thanks to our Decalu aluminum window frames, this was also possible. The plastic and aluminum window frames show no difference in color and design, allowing a combination of the materials in one building. This is very unique.Another advantage of our Decalu window frames is that they save time. The system is thirty percent faster to produce and assemble. Glass slats are assembled in the same way as with plastic window frames." In the end, Salverda Bouw decided to build the entire project in aluminum. This is because aluminum is stronger than plastic. This gives the large turn-tilt doors more stability, thus quality.
HEPRO started producing the window frames at the beginning of this year. Vreugdenhil: "We have now produced more than two-thirds of the window frames. A unique project for the city of Groningen and a unique project for HEPRO."
