High-quality elevator systems for Wonderwoods: Efficient and sustainable to the right floors

Residents, employees and visitors of Wonderwoods will soon be transported to the right floors quickly, efficiently and sustainably, thanks to the fifteen Schindler 5500 passenger elevators from Schindler Liften. 

"We were involved at an early stage by Boele & van Eesteren to help think about the vertical logistics in the building," Key Account Manager Marc Twickler and Product & Marketing Manager Maarten Bijl of Schindler Liften tell us. "Anno 2022 more and more functions are clustered in one building. Wonderwoods is a fine example of a so-called 'mixed-use' building. In the 105 and 73 meter high towers, owner-occupied housing, rental housing, offices, catering, fitness, retail units, indoor bicycle and (shared) car parking and a 'playlab' come together harmoniously. To properly organize the transport to all these functions, we made extensive traffic simulations and calculated the required elevator capacity. We worked out a total of three elevator groups, which go to different levels in the two residential towers and the office section."

Intelligent destination control

The Schindler 5500 elevators for Wonderwoods feature large cabs and a speed of 3 m/s, Twickler said. "The highly efficient Schindler PORT destination control system is used to control the elevators. Residents, employees and visitors can easily indicate at the terminals outside the elevators where they want to go. By grouping persons with similar destinations on this basis and assigning them an individual elevator, large crowds in the lobby as well as in the elevator cabs are prevented. In addition, the system is sustainable: fewer stops are made and thus much less energy is consumed. In PORT eco-mode, even one or more elevators are automatically stopped in quiet periods. The waiting time then remains acceptable, while energy consumption drops significantly."

Efficient and green

Where initially six elevators were scheduled in the tallest tower, Schindler Liften was able to reduce this to five elevators in combination with the PORT system, says Bijl. "The square meters saved as a result benefit the rentable area. Another special feature is that the elevators in the 'vertical city' have an energy return system as standard. This is a perfect match for Wonderwoods' green ambition." The first elevators will be assembled in the spring of 2023.
