Valley Amsterdam consists of a multi-story plinth topped by three towers. From a technical space at the bottom, the air ducts branch out through the building like veins, right into the individual spaces of the apartments. Nijburg Klimaattechniek delivered and installed the complete air technology systems in the parking garage, offices and apartments of the impressive mixed-use building, in close cooperation with installer and client Bosman Bedrijven.
Nijburg Klimaattechniek's production volume includes approximately 10,000 m² of rectangular ductwork, 7,000 m¹ of cast-in ductwork and 8,000 m¹ of round ductwork. The sendzimir-galvanized sheet metal ductwork is delivered including fittings and in different construction situations, which requires all-round involvement from the supplier, says sales manager Paul de Laak. "In this project, the focus is on quality, including a target BREEAM 'Excellent,' and it is being built on a postage stamp. First, you have to form a good team with the installer, both in engineering and assembly."
This requires parties that are selected on the basis of expertise, are familiar with BIM and can work together integrally. De Laak: "For Valley, for example, in connection with sustainability requirements and comfort, we looked in detail at the right air velocities. Many components were prefabricated in connection with the assembly logistics, such as tees and bends. And fittings such as silencers, fire dampers and grilles are produced in our own factory and delivered as a package in matched batches. To this end, we have a materials library that describes the shaped parts to be supplied with the appropriate fittings."
To give an example of the importance of this intensive involvement: some of the ductwork is collapsed into the apartment floors. "That means that you participate in the cascade construction logistics and in terms of assembly there has to be a 100% match. So Nijburg Klimaattechniek is not only producer and supplier. This form of integral cooperation has already led to several successfully executed projects with Bosman Companies." Monitoring of product and assembly quality is carried out by TüV Rheinland Nederland, with which Nijburg Klimaattechniek complies with the assembly regulations of industry organization Luka.
