The complete power distribution for the UvA's new library is being supplied by Van Egmond Groep. For this, the company is working together with power management company Eaton. It is by no means a small project, as the entire old building and the new atrium will be supplied with energy in this way.
It involves a total of 2 main distribution cabinets, 31 sub-distribution cabinets and 6 UPS systems, including power cables and cable routes. Together with Eaton, Van Egmond Groep worked out a work plan for the switch boxes, which are engineered in such a way that the PV installation can also be connected to them. This elaboration required quite a bit of thinking, because client BINX Smartility had initially assumed one main distribution box, but that didn't fit in the space. Tom Smit, account manager at Eaton: "That's why we divided the HVK over two cabinets, so that the spare groups and space were guaranteed."
All products are transported by water, which makes the project extra special for the companies. After all, these are electrotechnical products that absolutely must not get damp. By means of waterproof transport, they arrive at their destination, where they are installed by BINX.
As a supplier of electrical engineering and industrial automation, Van Egmond Group works regularly with Eaton, which manufactures the energy-efficient products. By taking on projects together from start to finish, the companies can deliver a total package where the client can rely on high-quality products and services and an energy-efficient installation. "We had many conversations with BINX beforehand to identify all the requirements. Together with Eaton, we can then give the best advice," says Martin Vogelaar, account manager at Van Egmond Groep. Tom Smit of Eaton adds: "In this way, we know how to tackle challenges in advance. By starting early in the project, we can also overcome long delivery times. Ed Kranenburg and Rob Wensink of BINX Smartility are our discussion partners for this beautiful project. They tied the knot to do this with us."
