820 vibration-free and soil displacement combi piles for Berghaus

Funderingstechnieken Verstraeten BV (Fundex) has over seventy years of international expertise in foundation engineering. Fundex® and Tubex® are two brands owned by the Fundex group 100%. These world-renowned inventions therefore symbolize the innovative power of the company. Davy Maes, Managing Director at Fundex Group: "A number of foundation companies around the world are allowed to make Fundex and Tubex piles, as long as the right drilling points are used and purchased through us. This results in a certain minimum quality level, necessary to give these pile types the name Fundex or Tubex. Over the years, we continue to improve our products and are seen in the market as the specialist in the field of vibration-free (deep) foundations for many structures, but also certainly in high-rise buildings."

For project Berghaus, Fundex installed 820 vibration-free and soil displacement Fundex® combi piles with three machines. With this technique, noise pollution for the environment around the construction site was minimized. Another flagship of Fundex is the deployment of zero-emission drilling rigs such as the CD20E and F4800E. Both machines can operate fully electric and can be used in areas with strict environmental requirements.

This technique was used to minimize noise pollution for those around the construction site.

"Zero-emission foundation machines will play a decisive role in the realization of construction projects," says Maes. Fundex is therefore on the way to a cleaner construction site and is committed to sustainability of the machinery. And that there is a demand for this is evidenced by the fact that the CD20E has already been used in Sweden in difficult to access foundation projects where strict emission standards played a major role. The Fundex CD20E is an emission-free foundation machine that is eminently deployable in locations. The machine can install different types of piles in places where space or height is limited.

Nexus in Leiden

The F4800E has now made its mark at the Nexus project in Leiden. There, in cooperation with Dura Vermeer Bouw Zuid and Greener, a successful first trial was conducted to drill entirely electrically. Nexus is a sustainable Life Sciences building with offices and laboratories for scale-ups, which is being built at the Bio Science Park in Leiden. Nexus aims to achieve BREEAM 'Excellent' certification, an international standard for rating buildings on sustainability and energy efficiency. Ecological, social and economic sustainability performance is taken into account in both the design and construction phases to create a working environment for companies that, like Fundex, want to reduce their environmental impact. Construction began electrically on July 24.

On to a cleaner construction site

Maes: "We have been working for quite some time on making all our light and heavy foundation machines more sustainable and in the last few years we have seen that we are actually getting orders for this. The cooperation with the customer, but also the suppliers of batteries, software and specific knowledge of electrification and connection is a must. Less noise means less inconvenience in an inner-city area and results in a completely different perception of construction work in the living environment. We are on the right path in the foundation industry and will certainly be ready to meet the ESG guidelines of 2030, 2040 and 2050! On to a cleaner construction site!"
