A warm coat with a special look

Complete exterior shell for sports and children's center the Terp Wieringerwerf

IBS Afbouw took care of the complete outer shell of the new multifunctional sports and children's center De Terp in Wieringerwerf. This involved the installation of some 980 m2 of stone strips in random bond and block tile bond and associated insulation.

IBS Afbouw specializes in exterior wall insulation, stone strips, EPS and decorative plaster. The company works for contractors, property owners and private individuals with a permanent team of six people and a flexible shell of freelancers. Owner Marc Veenstra: "About two years ago, in corona time, we were approached by main contractor De Geus for this project. Fortunately, we were then able to order our materials quickly, which meant we were less affected by the sharply rising prices. We have the bricks cut ourselves, taking out a lot of volume. Usually one takes one corner out of a stone, but for wildfires we cut many more. This saves in cost, material and energy consumption. Usually about 75% of the stone is thrown away, with us only 30%."

Quality and craftsmanship

Applying the stone strips in wild and block tile bonding was a big job. With a team of five people, IBS Afbouw worked on this project from November 2023 through February 2024. "The diversity of masonry, thicknesses, structures and different dressings make this a special project for us. The architect came up with the design, we then have to execute it. It turned out to be a beautiful building that we are proud of. Here we were able to let our hands do the work and show our quality and craftsmanship."

In addition to the special appearance of the building, IBS Afbouw also provided the essential "warm coat. With this, the building achieves a very high energy standard (BENG, RC6). It therefore contains 30 centimeters of thick insulation material: a 14 cm layer, a 16 cm layer, a fabric layer and finally the stone strips.

'Hoping for long-term cooperation'

It was the first time IBS Afbouw had worked on behalf of De Geus and the cooperation was pleasant. Veenstra: "We therefore hope for a long-term cooperation, but that remains to be seen. We are now working for another client in South Holland. This is a substantial project of 4,500 m2. It involves a building that was completed three years ago and kept experiencing leaks. Now we are removing the outer shell and installing a new system. A shame, because it could have been done right the first time."

IBS Afbouw is KOMO and Kiwa certified and works with materials from Sto Isoned in Tiel and bricks/stone strips from Baksteen Holland in Oudkarspel.
