Smart in facades. That is the new slogan of Vianen of Montfoort, which has been focusing for years on innovations in wood, in close cooperation with customers and suppliers. One example is the improved foil wrapping method for exterior foils on wooden façade elements. On April 11, 2019, the company also received - as the first and only one in the Netherlands - a KOMO certificate for the wooden façade elements applied in high-rise projects. Such as the 70-meter-high State residential tower in Amsterdam.
"Vianen has been working for years on a solution to use wooden façade elements in high-rise buildings. Due to the major influence of weather and wind, this was often thought to be impossible," says Hans Bakker, Account Manager at Vianen. "However, we found a solution in our so-called Vianen Guarantee Framework®, a specific connection detail with finger joint technology that guarantees optimum wind, water and air tightness up to 600Pa (wind force 11/very heavy storm) at high altitude, in combination with plastic and aluminum window frames. This was also proven by the tests, which were carried out by an independent body."
Prefabricated facade elements
The Garant Framework was developed in collaboration with Stichting Hout Research (SHR) and SKH, and has been used in, among other projects, residential tower State, where Vianen, commissioned by VORM Development & Construction, supplied the wooden cavity trays, wooden structural frames, wooden exterior frames and wooden eaves. "We contributed ideas at an early stage in this project, in order to achieve optimal detailing," says Bakker. "In a construction team with VORM Bouw B.V., Hendriks Stalen Bekistingtechniek and aluminum supplier Facédo, we provided the engineering. At our location in Montfoort, Facédo built most of the aluminum window frames into our wooden façade elements. We then carried out the integration of the wooden exterior frames into our facade elements in-house. Under the best conditions, after which all the facade elements were transported to the construction site just-in-time."
Following on from residential tower State, Vianen is also providing (in a construction team) the wooden facade elements for new construction project Sluishuis in Amsterdam, commissioned by and in close cooperation with construction combination VORM Bouw B.V. and BESIX RED.
For residential tower State in Amsterdam, Vianen delivered the following wooden facade elements:
