Glass windows are an important part of our contemporary architecture. They provide sufficient light in all rooms and an unrestricted view of the surroundings. For the 21 ground-level single-family houses and 298 apartments on the Middenkavel in Laan van Spartaan, Aliplast produced various aluminum window and facade systems, which were assembled by Stalku Geveltechniek. In close consultation with contractor UBA Bouw, adjustments were made to the profiling, which made it easier to assemble the window frames.

Aliplast specializes in the development and production of aluminum systems for windows, doors, sliding systems, folding walls, conservatories and curtain walls. This project is a good example of the possibilities, because it includes not only Max Light and Futural windows and VG 500 sliding windows, but also Panorama folding walls and MC Wall curtain walls. "Since development, extrusion, assembly, powder coating and even transport take place under one roof with us, we were able to guarantee the construction team a reliable delivery time," says Marc Mulders, sales manager for the Netherlands at Aliplast. "However, it was mainly the quality of the products as well as the flexibility to adapt the systems to their specific needs that were decisive for contractor UBA Bouw to work with us."

Window systems Futural and Max Light

Futural is a 3-chamber system with thermal break for interior aluminum windows and interior and exterior doors. This aluminum window system has an installation depth of 65 mm for the outer frame and 69 mm for the sash with a glass thickness of up to 61mm. The windows have a U-value of 1.5 W/m²K, Class 4 air tightness and a sound attenuation Rw of up to 45.2 dB. "The Max Light aluminum windows are designed for architectural projects that prioritize the combination of minimalist aesthetics, high-quality thermal insulation and comfort. There are 4 variants - Design, Invisible, Modern and Steel - the last two of which were used in the Laan van Spartaan project," explains the sales manager. "These Max Light Modern and Steel have a minimum view width for an internal pane of 35 mm both for frame and sash. For an internal door, frame and sash have a view width of 35 and 68 mm, respectively. At the contractor's request, we developed a special profile for Laan van Spartaan. While the stop is normally 15 mm, we opted for 22 mm. As a result, the frames could be placed better and there were more adjustment possibilities, which caused fewer problems on the construction site."

Sliding systems VG 500 and folding walls Panorama

With the VG500, the construction team also chose a universal sliding window that more than meets all contemporary requirements around glass thickness, sash height and insulation values. It is the solution for larger sizes with a sash weight of up to 200 kg as a lift-slide and 300 kg as a sliding system and a glass thickness of up to 43 mm. This system has a U-value of 1.2 W/m²K. Thanks to the flat sill, this sliding window is barrier-free. The Panorama folding wall is the superlative of a sliding window, because it allows a house to slide open completely. In fine weather, it provides the ideal experience of the outdoor space, and in bad weather, a perfect closure. This elegant folding wall system can be supplied 2- to 8-piece with a maximum sash weight of 100 kg. It has a built-in depth of 75 mm with glazing between 16 and 50 mm.

MC-Wall curtain walls

Finally, the MC Wall curtain wall was also selected. "In developing this solution, we made every effort to maximize the architect's design freedom. For example, vertical and sloping facades can easily be linked together. Thanks to the glass weight of up to 600 kg, gigantic window sections are possible," Mulders concludes. "With a U-value of 0.97 W/m²K, this all-in-one curtain wall also scores well in terms of insulation, and with a glass thickness of 59 mm, almost all available glass types can be integrated. In addition to aesthetics and insulation, fire resistance also catches the eye. Certificates up to EI120 are available for this system."
